Watch Nicole Scherzinger Belt ‘Sunset Boulevard’ Ballad on ‘Colbert’
Nicole Scherzinger performed “As If We Never Said Goodbye,” an emotive song from the Broadway musical Sunset Boulevard, during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. An orchestra joined Scherzinger onstage Monday, as her voice built from a tender whisper to a mighty roar.
“This world’s waited long enough/I’ve come home at last/And this time will be bigger/And brighter than we knew it/So watch me fly, we all know I can do it,” she sang.

The revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Sunset Boulevard began previews on Broadway at the St. James Theatre in September, and will run through July 6. In it, Scherzinger stars as Norma Desmond, a movie star who yearns to return to the Hollywood screen and seeks help from a struggling screenwriter. She sings “As If We Never Said Goodbye” when she returns to Paramount Pictures studios. The former Pussycat Dolls vocalist first performed as the dismissed silent screen star at London’s Savoy Theater in 2023.
“I felt I knew exactly this feeling of abandonment, the constant thread of loneliness, the insatiable need for affirmation, validation,” Scherzinger told The New York Times. “Now, there is this epic, iconic score to throw all this into and create art from places of torment.”
The Broadway production is adapted from the 1950 Billy Wilder film Sunset Boulevard, with Gloria Swanson starring as Norma Desmond. Prior to her recent Broadway run, Scherzinger released two solo albums, Killer Love and Big Fat Lie, and has served as a judge on The X Factor and The Masked Singer, wrapping her run on the masked show after its 10th season in 2023. Scherzinger previously performed in Webber’s Evita, as part of a TV special celebrating the prized composer, and in the 2014 Cats revival in London.
