Watch “The Daily Show” celebrate Kamala Harris for being 'just normal' (exclusive)
The celebration of the "just normal" presidential candidate, narrated by " normal guy" Jason Bateman, will air live tonight from the DNC in Chicago.
This year's Democratic National Convention has been as star-studded and packed with entertainment as Comic-Con, and The Daily Show is taking the festivities to the next level.
In an exclusive video to air later tonight as part of the late-night political comedy program's live broadcast from the convention in Chicago, The Daily Show celebrates Democratic presidential candidate and sitting Vice President Kamala Harris for being "just normal."
“Kamala Harris – Just Normal" is the latest in the show's Convention Films series and is narrated by Ozark and Arrested Development star Jason Bateman, who is billed as being "a normal guy."
The video begins with Bateman's stirring narration: "America is a land of people - people who are normal."
"America used to have presidents who were normal," he continues. "Sometimes they were good (flash of an archival clip of Theodore Roosevelt), or not so good (clip of George W. Bush). But they could always finish their sentences (JFK), and not start civil wars (footage of the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection attempt)."
The video then makes its point clear: "But after eight years of this (a clip of Joe Biden saying 'we finally beat MediCare'), and this (Donald Trump making odd noises on stage at a rally), and just generally feeling like were trapped in a sadistic circus in the eighth circle of hell, it is time for America to return to normal. It is time for Kamala Harris. Just normal."
The video doesn't hold back in its criticisms of Harris's opponents and even allies. The primary subject of the video's critique, naturally, is Trump, who Harris will face off against in the November election. But the The Daily Show also makes a number of jabs at President Joe Biden, under whose administration Harris is still serving and from whom she received the torch when he dropped out of the 2024 race in July.
"Kamala Harris - Just Normal" produces a brief sketch of Harris's life story, with snarky jabs and sardonic jokes peppered in. Harris is "the daughter of two academics, who met at school, a way that normal people meet their spouses, as opposed to a party with sex ring billionaires." The video then cuts to footage of Trump at a 1992 party with the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
Her experience being bused to desegregated schools, time at Howard University, where she worked a job at McDonald's, and "normal trajectory for president" — "law school, San Francisco District Attorney, Attorney General of California" — are all produced as evidence of her fitness for the highest office.
The video touts Harris's "normalcy" as particularly needed now, because if she's elected, "You wont have to learn about Project 2025 or great replacement theory, or whether a president can serve out his term while in prison." Bateman's narration grows exasperated. "What the hell are we doing here, gang? I've been in episodes of Ozark less stressful than this!"
Bateman concludes the video by promising that "Kamala Harris will be a normal president. Just a normal f---ing president."

Earlier this week at the DNC, The View star Ana Navarro went after Trump for his support of the controversial South Dakota politician Kristi Noem; Mindy Kaling used her time at the podium to voice support for Ben Affleck in the midst of his divorce from Jennifer Lopez; and Oprah Winfrey took a shot at GOP vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance's much-criticized "childless cat ladies" comments.
The Daily Show is currently nominated for seven Emmy nominations, the most of any late-night series this year and tying our franchise best for most nominations in a year.
"Kamala Harris - Just Normal" will air as part of The Daily Show's live broadcast tonight from the Chicago DNC at 11:30pm ET/PT on Comedy Central, hosted by Jon Stewart.
