Watch: Cleveland film crews spotted building set in public square
CLEVELAND (WJW) – It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s a generic appliance store with fake tv’s for sale…
On Thursday, FOX 8 cameras captured a Cleveland movie crew building a set on public square for what’s believed to be the upcoming production of “Genesis.”
The busy builders more than caught the eye of several Clevelanders, including Jenn Fonds, who had to snap a couple pictures on her phone to share with family.
“It’s awesome. I mean, it’s clear the city is getting a lot of revenue from it as well, but it puts Cleveland on the map even more so,” she said.

The speculation is that this film has something to do with Superman. This set has a couple of hints that help that case:
The “S” at this generic book store appears to take on the Superman shape
– The appliance store is covered in Superman blue
“Genesis” was awarded $11 million in state tax credit earlier this year and expects to hire around 3,200 local residents for production.
The film is a homecoming of sorts for Superman (AKA Clark Kent; AKA Kal-El, the Last Son of Krypton) who was created by Clevelanders Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1933, while they were at Glenville High School, according to Case Western Reserve University.
The store that’s already rolling out Christmas
With these sets going up fast, it appears filming will start sometime soon.
For at least one passerby on Thursday, that’s enough to go see the final product whenever it’s released to theaters.
“Honestly yeah, I mean, it would be really cool to see because I live right here so it would be cool to see it because of that.”
