W. Earl Brown Cast As Hugo Root In AMC Pilot ‘Preacher’
Deadwood alum W. Earl Brown is the latest regular cast addition to AMC’s drama pilot Preacher, based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic. Brown will play a character from the comic in the project, from Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, Sony TV and AMC Studios, which centers on Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small
Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God. Brown will play Sheriff Hugo Root, the mean-hearted father of Eugene Root aka Arseface (Ian Colletti), a flinty-eyed, conspiracy-credulous redneck who is not a fool and has a vulnerability to him. Lucy Griffiths also co-stars.
Brown, repped by Greene & Assoc. and manager Lynn Rawlins, co-stars on the first installment of John Ridley’s ABC anthology drama series American Crime and will next be seen recurring on Season 2 of HBO’s True Detective.
