‘The Voice’ Season 27 Episode 3 recap: Team Adam picks up 3 artists including potential winner with ‘limitless potential’
The Voice Season 27 continued on Monday with the third batch of Blind Audition performances. Going into day three of the round, two block and two “Coach Replay” uses had been made. John Legend applied his block against Adam Levine in Episode 1 and returning champ Michael Bublé successfully used his against first-time coach Kelsea Ballerini in Episode 2. Michael and Kelsea also activated their single-use “Coach Replay” buttons to snatch up artists they changed their minds about. Carson Daly once again guides the artists and coaches through the season as host.
This week, Adam found the stride he had in the early seasons by making expert use of the tools available to him in this new era of the show. Over the course of the evening, he managed to earn three artists, two of which were the direct result of his replay and block advantages.

“I thought you came back to get me” — Tinika Wyatt to Adam Levine
Marriage and family therapist Tinika Wyatt aimed to show her four kids that “it is never too late to be who you’ve always wanted to be” with her time on the show. The 50-year old songstress has been on stage all over the world as a background vocalist for other artists, but has since decided to focus on time at home and in the church with her family and community. Now, as an empty nester she feels like her “best days are yet to come” with her return to her passion for performing.

When none of the coaches turned for Tinika’s audition of Demi Lovato‘s mid-tempo anthem “Sorry Not Sorry,” it looked like this wouldn’t be the second wind she was looking for. John told her there were “imprecise moments” and Michael suggested that a different song would have given her more range to show. When Adam admitted to Tinika that they were all close to turning for her, she told a story about how she sang an original ditty at an open casting call years ago that appealed directly to wanting Adam to turn for her. In the moment she sang directly to him, Adam was convinced he missed the mark by not turning for her originally and hit his replay button for her. He said she has a “richness” to her voice and an “irresistible” disposition that made it impossible for him to not give her the second chance at her second wind.
“I tried to block you last minute… it didn’t work” — Kelsea Ballerini to Adam Levine
Later in the evening, even after Adam cautioned her against using her block because he’s “still hurt from John blocking [him],” Kelsea very nearly prevented Broadway singer Conor James from the opportunity to join Team Adam. His audition to “I Say a Little Prayer” was the top audition of the night, earning a chair turn from all four coaches. Adam was the third coach to turn, mere seconds before Kelsea hit her own button with a block on him. Had she been successful, Conor would not have been able to pick Adam as his coach as he eventually did. Adam appealed to Conor by comparing him to the artists he won the show with, noting that these artists have a “spirit” about them that leads to a “limitless potential.” Adam is convinced that he has his fourth champion in Conor.
Adam got his revenge on Kelsea’s attempted coup a few auditions later when he successfully used his own block against her during Tyler Kae‘s dreamy rendition of the Cyndi Lauper classic “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” Adam explained that he blocked Kelsea because he knew she was going to turn around and told Tyler that she had some “huge, awesome moments that [she] absolutely nailed.” Kelsea felt a kinship to Tyler because of her Nashville roots, but John pointed out that she can make use of her steal advantage later in the season.

Kelsea’s night got almost immediately worse when she used her block back on Adam during BD.ii‘s audition to “Adorn,” but as a four chair turn BD.ii was able to join another team. He was ultimately sold on John’s pitch that he’s worked with Miguel on other “baby making music” like his sexy and cool song choice.

By the end of Episode 3, the coaches added nine more artists to the competition. Aside from Adam’s three new members, John secured BD.ii and Jacquelyn George with “I Have Nothing,” Michael pulled in Divighn with “I Got You (I Feel Good)” and Barry Jean Fontenot with “I Wish It Would Rain,” and Kelsea brought Page Mackenzie with “Hell on Heels” and Jessica Manalo with “Unholy” on board.
The teams so far:
TEAM LEGEND (6 of 12 full) — Ari Camille, BD.ii, Bryson Battle, Jacquelyn George, Jordan Allen, Renzo
TEAM BUBLé (6 of 12 full) — Barry Jean Fontenot, Braxton Garza, Carlos Santiago, Divighn, Jadyn Cree, Ricardo Moreno
TEAM KELSEA (6 of 12 full) — Angie Rey, Dan Kiernan, Iris Herrera, Jaelen Johnston, Jessica Manalo, Page Mackenzie, Tatum Scott
TEAM ADAM (8 of 12 full) — Britton Moore, Conor James, Darius J, Ethan Eckenroad, Grace-Miller Moody, Hayden Grove, Tinika Wyatt, Tyler Kae
The four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series The Voice is in its 27th season featuring five stages of competition: Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs and Live Performance Shows. In the coaches’ chairs, Michael is the defending champion after winning Season 26. He is joined by John, in his 10th season, and Kelsea, competing for the first time. Adam rejoined the panel of coaches for his 17th season after taking a hiatus following Season 16.
