9:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘The Voice’!” In episode 11, the coaches continued refining their teams in the battles. On Team Reba Ruby Leigh defeated Al Boogie. On Team Niall Noah Spencer defeated Reid Zingale and Alexa Wildish defeated Lvndr. On Team Gwen Rudi defeated Joslynn Rose and Jenna Marquis defeated Claire Heilig. On Team Legend Taylor Deneen defeated Azán (stolen by Niall) and Kaylee Shimizu defeated Elizabeth Evans (stolen by Reba). Let’s continue the battles!
9:02 p.m. – In this final stretch of battles, Tom Nitti and Dylan Carter took on “‘Til You Can’t” for Team Reba. After their initial pass through the song, Reba focused on getting the guys to engage with the audience by looking directly at them in order to “sell the information” of the song with their face. They also worked through an idea of Tom playing his guitar for the performance while Dylan didn’t.
9:09 p.m. – Niall picked up on the emotion of the song from Dylan and said he “persevered” through that emotion in order to deliver a strong vocal. He also appreciated the “gravel” in Tom’s vote and thinks he is a relaxed performer. Gwen called Dylan’s voice “ridiculous” and Tom’s ability to emote a song strong as well. John thought Tom was hiding behind the guitar at the start of the song, but then revealed himself later while Dylan was consistent and “spiritually in tune.” Reba thought they both were magical and suggested that Tom and Dylan would make a good duo. In the end, Reba decided that Tom won the battle and would remain a member of his team.
9:15 p.m. – We also got a glimpse of the Team Niall battle between Olivia Minogue and Laura Williams on “Ghost” where Niall picked Olivia as the winner for being a “solid singer” and his gut feeling that she’d be stronger in the next round.
9:21 p.m. – Team Gwen continued the competition with the battle between Jason Arcilla and Eli Ward, who she sees as two singer songwriters that made sense to perform together. Gwen’s song choice was “Make It with You,” a love song from the 70s that she said is not easy to sing because it has long notes. For that reason, she worked with them on their breath work and wanted them to think about who they’d be singing the song to.
9:30 p.m. – John thought it was a “fun and soulful” choice of song that Jason had a “gentleness” on and Eli commanded throughout. Reba agreed that they sounded great together and was impressed by their audience interaction, but also thought Eli was the stand out. Niall said that Eli embodied the song with his smoothness and “pure tone,” while Jason had an “etherealness.” Niall differed from John and Reba, leaning more toward Jason. Gwen thought it was an impossible choice to make because they both worked really hard and showed growth, but her decision came down to the artist she feels is more ready for the competition. For that reason, Gwen stuck with Jason.
9:42 p.m. – Mara Justine and Claudia B. were the final artists to battle for Team John, taking on “Son of a Preacher Man” because it’s a crossover song between soul and pop. In his notes for them, John pointed out that it’s a song you don’t have to try too hard on, like the gospel tinge to the song that shouldn’t be forced.
9:52 p.m. – Reba started off comments be expressing her amazement that Mara and Claudia are both in their lower 20s and have as much talent as they do. She noted Claudia’s stage presence and Mara’s attitude and range, believing 100% in both of their performance quality. Niall said he remembered both of their auditions because he wanted them on his team, adding that Mara is a superstar and Claudia was able to hold her own in power and control despite that. Gwen loved Claudia’s “strong identity” and style, but Mara had “star quality in her walk” the moment she stepped on to the stage. John said that they both delivered and made him proud. He sees Claudia’s tone as clear compared to Mara’s more dynamic, rock-style tone. In the end, John determined that Mara was the winner because she has more edge. Without hesitation, Niall hit his steal button, taking Claudia over to his team because of how clear her voice is.
