'Vanderpump Rules' reboot: A new cast planned, two years after 'Scandoval'
Pump the brakes: Bravo is rebooting "Vanderpump Rules."
The network announced Tuesday that the reality series' 12th season will star an entirely new cast. Lisa Vanderpump will be joined by a "new group of close-knit SUR-vers who are as complicatedly involved with one another as their iconic predecessors."
"The last 12 years of filming have been an extraordinary run full of laughter, tears and everything in between," Vanderpump said in a statement. "I can't thank enough those who have shared their lives. How I love you all. In the restaurant business, one shift always gives way to another. Cheers to the next generation of 'Vanderpump Rules.'"
The new cast members will be revealed at a later date.
"Vanderpump Rules," which debuted in 2013, follows the staff of restaurants owned by Vanderpump, an alum of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills." Bravo said Season 12 will see Vanderpump's restaurant SUR welcome the "next batch of servers, hosts and bartenders rife with plenty of drama, situationships and frenemies."
Tom Sandoval, Tom Schwartz are closing their LA bar Schwartz & Sandy's
Last year, the reality show made headlines amid a scandal known as "Scandoval," in which star Tom Sandoval was revealed to have cheated on his then-girlfriend Ariana Madix with his co-star and her close friend, Rachel Leviss. "To say I have been devastated and broken is an understatement," Madix said at the time.
In an interview with The New York Times Magazine this year, Sandoval compared the phenomenon of his cheating scandal to "the O.J. Simpson thing and George Floyd and all these big things." He later apologized, calling his remarks "inappropriate and ignorant."
In the wake of the cheating scandal, Leviss did not return for the 11th season of "Vanderpump Rules," which aired earlier this year, but Sandoval remained a cast member.
Tom Sandoval, Andy Cohen comment on rumored 'Vanderpump Rules' summer hiatus
In a statement Tuesday, executive producer Alex Baskin said it is "a thrill" to "build on the legacy of this series by doing it all over again," adding that "with profound appreciation for the original group and their iconic run, we can’t wait for the audience to see a dynamic new group of coworkers and friends make their way through life together."
A retrospective special featuring the most memorable moments from the show's first 11 seasons was also announced Tuesday. Season 12 will begin production next year. A premiere date hasn't been set.
