USA Olympic basketball star's camcorder videos peel the curtain behind the Paris experience
U.S. men’s basketball star Devin Booker is giving fans an inside look at what life is like for an Olympian in Paris.
The Phoenix Suns guard, who won a gold medal with Team USA at the pandemic-delayed 2020 Olympics in Tokyo in 2021, documented his experience at the opening ceremony by sharing footage he recorded on his own camcorder July 27 on Instagram.
The video begins with Booker on his bike and then walking by a crowd.
“Olympics, second time around,” he says before he turns the camera around to a small crowd below while he stands on a balcony.
The footage then shifts to him mingling with teammate Stephen Curry.
“This is how start. We USAing right now,” he says as he homes in on Kevin Durant and Team USA women's star Diana Taurasi.
“Ain’t nobody got gold medals like them folks over there,” he says, referring to the eight combined Olympic gold medals they’ve won.
Booker and LeBron James then head out onto the street where they get onto a bus in front of a throng of people. Once onboard, he captures Taurasi and James greeting each other.
“That’s a GOAT interaction right there,” Booker says.
Booker than records James dancing once they get off the bus before the action shifts to Team USA on its boat, giving fans a bird's-eye view of other boats on the Seine, the shoulder-to-shoulder pandemonium as the athletes chant “USA!”
At one point, he records James, who served as a flag bearer for Team USA, while he holds the flag.
“That boy standing like Captain America,” he teases.
James was amused.
“?????????? 'That boy standing like Captain America'. That’s hilarious! Dope content here!” he commented in the post.
The video then ends with a glimmering view of the Eiffel Tower as it flashes lights while the Olympic logo is lit up.
Another video posted on July 31 captures Booker hanging out with Nyjah Huston, who won a bronze medal in Paris in the street skateboard event. Booker records him as he competes before the video jumps to nighttime where Booker attends a Nike exhibit and then hits the streets on a bicycle, chats with Tony Hawk on a video call and takes photos with fans.
Booker and Team USA will once again take the floor Aug. 3 when they square off against Puerto Rico at 11:15 a.m. ET as the squad continues its quest to win its fifth straight Olympic gold medal.
