‘Urban Cowboy’: Jim Belushi In Fox Pilot
Jim Belushi has been cast opposite Alfonso Herrera in Fox’s drama pilot Urban Cowboy, a modern reimagining of the 1980 Paramount movie starring John Travolta and Debra Winger.
Like the country-music-fueled original movie, in the TV adaptation, written/directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Footloose), music will have a strong presence, this time with a Latin flavor. The project follows star-crossed young lovers Kyle aka Juan Miguel (Herrera) and Gaby as they pursue their dreams and passions through the sweat of line dancing in honky tonks, the grime of the oil refineries and the glamour of modern Texas. Belushi will play Marshall Stoval, a spirited long haul truck driver turned honky tonk bar owner, who is as much of a Houston institution as his bar Gilley’s.
Like Herrera, Belushi has a music background, most famously as half of the updated version of The Blues Brothers.
Urban Cowboy comes from Paramount TV and 20th Century Fox TV, with Brewer executive producing alongside Robert Evans, who produced the movie, Sue Naegle and Chris Levinson.
Belushi recently wrapped shooting Amazon’s period magazine drama pilot, Good Girls Revolt, in which he plays a guest starring/recurring role as the magazine’s genteel, conservative managing Editor. Currently be seen in David Simon’s HBO miniseries, Show Me A Hero, directed by Paul Haggis, Belushi is repped by ICM Partners and Brillstein Entertainment.
