U.K. Documentary to Venture Inside the U.S. Embassy

The U.S. embassy in London is opening its doors for a documentary series commissioned by the U.K.’s Channel 4.

The as-yet-untitled three-parter will capture life inside the embassy as it relocates to a new site in south London and a new ambassador, Woody Johnson, takes charge.

In the U.K. there is often talk of the ‘special relationship’ between Britain in the U.S. and this relationship is increasingly important and in the spotlight as the U.K. prepares to exit the European Union.

Against that backdrop, Field Day Productions have gained access to the embassy and permission to film over six months. Veteran filmmaker Roger Graef will executive produce.

Dorothy Byrne, Channel 4 head of news and current affairs, commissioned the series. “This is an important landmark observational documentary series which will give viewers a chance to experience a slice of daily life behind the scenes of this influential embassy,” she said.

Field Day was set up by former BBC commissioner Sally Angel and is part of the U.K.-based production group Keo. “We are delighted to be working on our first commission for Channel 4 on a series that will open up the workings of a previously closed piece of America that sits inside the UK,” Angel said.
