TV News Roundup: Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman Visit ‘Life in Pieces,’ ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Finds Stargirl
Fox has added three new actors to Season 4 of “Sleepy Hollow,” The CW has found their Stargirl for “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2 and more in Monday’s news roundup.
CASTING
Fox has announced that Oona Yaffe, Jerry MacKinnon and Rachel Melvin will be guest starring on Season 4 of “Sleepy Hollow.” Yaffe, best known for her appearance on “MasterChef Junior” Season 2, will be playing Molly Thomas, Diana’s 10-year-old daughter. MacKinnon of “Empire” and “Chicago Fire” will be playing Jake Wells, a research analyst. Melvin who guest-starred on MTV’s “Awkward” will play Alex Norwood, an engineering prodigy who works alongside Wells. “Sleepy Hollow” Season 4 is set to premiere at midseason.
Husband and wife duo Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman will be guest-starring on Season 2 of CBS’ “Life in Pieces.” Mullally, of “Will & Grace” fame, will be playing Mary-Lynn, Clementine’s free-spirited mother. Offerman, best known for “Parks and Recreation,” will be playing Mary-Lynn’s brother who is an “Uncle Dad” character for Clementine. “Life in Pieces” Season 2 will premiere October 27 at 9:20 p.m. on CBS.
The CW’s “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” has cast Sarah Grey of the upcoming “Power Rangers” movie as Stargirl. IGN first reported the news. She will be appearing alongside Patrick J. Adam as Hourman, as well as Dr. Mid-Nite and Obsidian who have yet to be cast. Grey joins the recently announced Matthew MacCaull as Commander Steel. “Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2 is set to premiere on October 13 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
EXECUTIVES
Freeform has tapped Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer as the new “Shadowhunters” showrunners. The former “Smallville” exec producers will be replacing Ed Decter, who exited as showrunner last week after having started production on Season 2. Slavkin and Swimmer were previously showrunners on Syfy’s “Dominion” and are executive producers on Freeform’s “Guilt.” Deadline first reported the news.

Discovery has announced the premiere date of documentary series “Taking Fire.” The five-part series, which is told by real soldiers, follows a band of brothers deployed to defend one of the United States’ farthest outposts at Taliban-held Korengal Valley in Northeast Afghanistan. It includes real combat footage shot on helmet cameras and handy-cams. “Taking Fire” will air one episode a week starting September 12 on Discovery.

The Television Academy has announced the theme for their upcoming Governors Ball, which follows the Emmy Awards telecast on September 18. This year’s theme will be “Nature’s Elegance.”
“The Nature’s Elegance theme is the perfect description of the Ball’s enchanting al-fresco décor and an inspired menu that elevates the farm-to-table concept to new heights,” said Governors Ball Committee Co-Chairs Barbara Cassel and Edward Fassl.
