Who Is Trixie Mattel's Boyfriend? All About David Silver
Trixie Mattel and her boyfriend have collaborated on two TV shows together
Singer, actor and drag queen Trixie Mattel rose to prominence in 2015 on the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
She became an instant fan favorite and later appeared on season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars where she took home the winning title. But fame wasn’t all Mattel gained after making her TV debut: in 2016, the performer met her longtime boyfriend, David Silver.
A producer, Silver has worked on several major films. Now he also has a hand in his partner’s universe, having encouraged Mattel to pursue her documentary, Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts (2019), and later executive producing the pair’s Max series, Trixie Motel (2022).
So, who is Trixie Mattel's boyfriend? Here’s everything to know about David Silver and his relationship with the drag queen.
Mattel and Silver met in 2016
Mattel and Silver met in 2016 and went on their first vacation together in February of the following year.
In an early 2020 interview with 48 Hills, Mattel opened up about her relationship with Silver: “I just turned 30, bought a house, have a partner of three years, and in a lot of ways, I’m kind of grown-up.”
When asked about the challenges of regularly being on tour, Mattel shared that it had been difficult romantically. “It sometimes puts a strain on my relationship. I love my boyfriend. He’s really my world and he comes on tour and stays on the bus with me. But our relationship matured slowly because I spent our entire relationship touring,” she explained.
“Especially in the formative months of our relationship, I’d be gone two months at a time, then come back and then be gone. There was a chunk where we were starting to get serious when I did All Stars and then The Trixie & Katya Show on Viceland, so I didn’t see him for four months,” she added.
Fast forward to 2024, though, and the pair live and work together.
Silver is based in Los Angeles
Having worked in Hollywood for years, Silver is based in Los Angeles, Calif. He and Mattel began dating after she first starred on Rupaul’s Drag Race, which films in L.A.
Today, the pair live in a home they remodeled, having documented the process for the second season of Trixie Motel on Max.
Silver has produced films starring Jennifer Aniston, Cillian Murphy and more
Silver is an active and increasingly well-known producer in Hollywood. To date, he has worked on countless projects, some of the most notable being Batman Begins (2015) starring Christian Bale, Katie Holmes and Cillian Murphy and The Break-Up (2006) starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughan.
In 2023, Silver was awarded The Queerties' reality/docuseries award for his work on Trixie Motel.
Silver and Mattel have worked on several projects together
Silver and Mattel have collaborated on several projects together, starting with Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts. In fact, Silver encouraged Mattel to make the documentary.
Moving Parts follows Mattel’s rise to fame, charting the highs and lows of performing drag, as well as her career in country music that followed. After premiering at Tribeca Film Festival in 2019, it was met with widespread praise.
Mattel and Silver have also collaborated on Trixie Motel and Trixie Motel: Drag Me Home.
They support each other’s careers
While Mattel gets the lion’s share of the spotlight due to her fame, she doesn’t shy away from supporting Silver and his endeavors as a producer. During press for Moving Parts, Mattel said: "Our relationship has been five years ... of watching all my dreams come true ... and this project is one of David’s dreams that I really, really want to see come true."
Likewise, Silver is Mattel’s right-hand man. Not only did he push Mattel to do the documentary, but he executive produced their television shows. He is also supportive of Mattel's solo career.
The drag queen told 48 Hills that she has written songs about her boyfriend and written jokes about their life together, all with Silver's support.
"I draw from my real life and being with him is my only experience in the last three years," Mattel said in 2020. "We’re also kinda open, so there are jokes about that. He’s really good at letting me pull from our real life."
They opened and own a motel together
Mattel and Silver opened a motel together, aptly called the Trixie Motel. Better yet, they turned the construction of the spot into a show of the same name for Max.
The hotel offers seven rooms, each with its own theme. Located in Palm Springs, “steps away from the city’s best restaurants and attractions,” it’s a bubblegum pink home away from home.
The renovation show featured Mattel, Silver and a slew of celebrity guests, including Orville Peck, Gigi Gorgeous and Jonathan Bennet, who helped to remodel the southern Californian motel.
Silver and Mattel documented the renovation of their first home
Following the success of Trixie Motel, Mattel and Silver took things to the next level: They decided to move in together after seven years of dating — and they documented the remodeling of an L.A. home to do it.
With a new spin on Trixie Motel, the pair launched Trixie Motel: Drag Me Home in 2024. Much like the series' first iteration, the show follows the home's transformation as they partner up with a few celebrity guests for added entertainment. This time, the guest list included Drew and Jonathan Scott (a.k.a. the Property Brothers) among others.
As for Silver’s role in the show, it’s bigger than ever. "With this project, it wouldn't make any sense to renovate the house and have the other person who's gonna live here not involved," Mattel told PEOPLE. "Storytelling-wise, it didn't make sense. So he's definitely in it."
