The Traitors Recap: Queens Both Past and Present Rule the Castle — but Who Shed the Most Tears?
This week’s episode of The Traitors was all about the ladies. Not only did we get two very welcome blasts from the past, but the war between Carolyn and Danielle finally reached its breaking point. By the end of the hour, which traitor came out on top? Let’s break it all down.
To recruit or to kill? That’s the question facing our remaining traitors at the top of the episode. Unfortunately for Danielle, she’s burned her bridge with Carolyn too many times, and the Survivor finalist is not budging. There’s no way Carolyn’s willing to allow Britney to get recruited, and who can blame her? So the duo switches gears to discuss a murder instead, with Carolyn continuing to be a thorn in Dani’s side, ixnaying every name that’s brought up in the turret.

But a decision has to be made, and the person to lose his seat at the breakfast table is… Sam. And while everyone chows down on smoked salmon and fruit, Danielle tells us she needs to prepare for a possible attack by Carolyn. So she intends to plant some seeds just in case her fellow traitor might feel bold enough to make her move.

With numbers dwindling, Danielle makes it a point to get in Dolores’ ear, while Dylan and Gabby forge a truce. (They’re both suspecting Danielle, by the way.) Meanwhile, Britney gets emotional when she thinks about how Danielle could’ve potentially been murdered (awkward), causing Danielle to have her own teary-eyed confessional. She doesn’t want to break Britney’s heart. Her best case scenario: Get Carolyn banished so she can pull Britney over to the dark side. (Danielle, you really can’t figure out why Carolyn didn’t want to recruit Brit? Come on, now!)
QUEENS (RE)ENTER THE CASTLE | For the challenge, the players must answer questions based on how they think the traitors responded — a tricky predicament for Carolyn and Danielle. But before the game can begin, two former traitors approach the chess board to raise the stakes: It’s Kate and Parvati who… really don’t have too much to do besides look fabulous and make snarky quips. (Watch out, Alan!) But they understood the assignment, alright.
As the questions roll out, a massive traitor figurine floats across the board to reveal the answers — and that thing is creepy! (The added sound effects go a long way too.) The group banks $10K, but in the process, Carolyn overplays her hand, first by trying to argue for a correct answer that was not on the group’s radar, and next by not only picking her own name for an answer, but speaking up for herself in the discussion. Eeek! Danielle clocks these errors and hopes a few members of the faithful are taking notes as well.
Ahead of the banishment, paranoia runs rampant throughout the castle. Iver and Tom don’t think Carolyn could possibly pull off being a traitor (“If she was, she deserves an Oscar.”) And while Ivar’s suspicions lie on Danielle, he doesn’t think there would be enough votes to send her out the door.
Then, Danielle gets the ammo she’s looking for. Ivar tells her that Carolyn’s been throwing her name around, which means Danielle is locked, loaded and ready to fight to the fullest. Brace yourselves, people!
ROUNDTABLE | When Alan turns the floor over to the group, Danielle and Carolyn stare daggers into each other’s souls! Ivar verbalizes that he thinks there are two female traitors left. (Ding, ding, ding! What do we have for him, Johnny?) Carolyn is the first to make a move. She says faithfuls have zero reason to lie, so it makes her wonder why Danielle would lie to Britney about Carolyn saying Brit’s name. Danielle counters that Carolyn “Forrest Gumps” a lot. (One huge “LOL” to that one. Didn’t know that could be used as a verb!) The Big Brother queen then brings up the day’s challenge as more evidence against her fellow Survivor castaway-turned-traitor. Carolyn says that no one trusts Danielle 100%, and brings up how she’s consistently ignored in this game. Tears are shed. Honestly, this entire group seems stressed af.
In a confessional, Carolyn admits she wasn’t fully prepared to defend herself. Maybe she shouldn’t have gone for Danielle this time around. But what’s done is done. When the votes start to come in, it’s an absolute nail-biter. (Well, except for the fact that Tom and Dolores vote for each other. I don’t know what game these two are playing, but it certainly isn’t Traitors.) However, Dylan casts the tie-breaking vote and Carolyn is heartbreakingly banished from the castle.
Before the episode exits stage left, Gabby brings up a great point: Could that have been traitor-on-traitor violence? “It was giving Rob and Bob,” she says. Britney then thinks: “I haven’t been murdered… is that why?” Then, as per the rules of the game, Danielle gets to recruit another hooded villain. We see that Britney is the recipient of the recruitment letter, but as she approaches the last lonely traitor in the depths of the castle dungeon, the credits start to roll.
