Alicia Keys, “Stereophonic” and the late Stephen Sondheim were among the big winners at the 2024 Tony Awards, Broadway’s biggest night.

By all accounts, it’s been a robust ― some might say overstuffed ― season for live theater. But as expected, the acclaimed Sondheim revival “Merrily We Roll Along” emerged triumphant on Sunday, winning Best Revival of a Musical as well as Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical and Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for stars Jonathan Groff and Daniel Radcliffe, respectively.

Maleah Joi Moon and Kecia Lewis ― who star in Keys’ bio-musical “Hell’s Kitchen” ― rounded out the acting awards for musicals with wins for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical and Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, respectively.

As for Best Musical, the top honor went to “The Outsiders,” the stage adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s classic 1967 novel. The show’s director, Danya Taymor, also nabbed the Tony for Best Direction of a Musical.

On the non-musical side, “Stereophonic” ― which broke records when it became the most-nominated play in Tonys history ― picked up the awards for Best Play, as well as Best Direction of a Play for director Daniel Aukin and Best Featured Actor in Play for actor Will Brill. And Sarah Paulson finally nabbed an overdue Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her dynamite turn in “Appropriate.”
