Timothée Chalamet to receive Chairman’s Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival
Another week, another award for Timothée Chalamet.
On Monday, the Palm Springs International Film Festival announced that the 28-year-old American actor will receive the Chairman’s Award at its annual gala on Jan. 3, 2025. This honor specifically recognizes Chalamet’s performance in James Mangold‘s “A Complete Unknown” from Searchlight Pictures, a biopic of music legend Bob Dylan.

This news comes one week after he was announced as the Arlington Artist of the Year Award honoree at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and two weeks after he and Mangold were both named as the Visionary Tribute honorees at the Gotham Awards.
The Palm Springs International Film Awards will take place at the Palm Springs Convention Center, with the 11-day festival running between Jan. 2 and Jan. 13. The event will be presented by Silvercrest and sponsored by “Entertainment Tonight.”
Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi said, “Timothée Chalamet embodies one of the most iconic figures in music history with his extraordinary performance as Bob Dylan in ‘A Complete Unknown.’ Timothée showcases both his physical and vocal talents as he brings depth and nuance to this role that is certain to receive award recognition. It is our honor to recognize Timothée, one of the most respected actors of his generation, with the Chairman’s Award.”

In years past, Chalamet was honored at the PSIFF with its Rising Star Award (2018) for “Call Me By Your Name” and the Spotlight Award (2019) for “Beautiful Boy.” The Chairman’s Award has honored such recent recipients as Billie Eilish & Finneas O’Connell, Amy Adams, George Clooney, Viola Davis, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Regina King, Gary Oldman, and Reese Witherspoon.
Other honorees at this year’s Palm Springs International Film Awards include Adrien Brody (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor), “Conclave” (Ensemble Performance Award) presented to actors Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Lucian Msamati; Kieran Culkin (Breakthrough Performance Award, Actor); Colman Domingo (Spotlight Award, Actor); Angelina Jolie (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress), Nicole Kidman (International Star Award); Mikey Madison (Breakthrough Performance Award, Actress); and “Emilia Pérez” (Vanguard Award) presented to director Jacques Audiard and actors Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Salda?a, Selena Gomez, and Edgar Ramírez.
Chalamet has one Academy Award nomination to his name for “Call Me by Your Name” in Best Actor, losing to Gary Oldman for “Darkest Hour.” He is currently predicted to receive a Best Actor Oscar bid for “A Complete Unknown,” per Gold Derby’s odds. To date, he has starred in five Best Picture Oscar nominees: “Call Me by Your Name,” “Lady Bird” (2017), “Little Women” (2019), “Dune: Part One” (2021), and “Don’t Look Up” (2021).
The official review embargo for “A Complete Unknown” lifts on Dec. 10, but you can already read some online reactions. The film opens in theaters on Dec. 25.
