Watch: The Wicker Man: Special Screening Event
Seminal folk horror movie The Wicker Man is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023.
Having been lovingly restored in 4K, the influential 1973 film — directed by Robin Hardy and starring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, and Britt Ekland — returned to UK cinemas on summer solstice, and is being released in a stunning 5-disc collector's edition on 25 September, featuring new extras, all three cuts of the film, pop-up artwork, a booklet, an EP of new music, and much more.
To celebrate the impending release of what is sure to be the definitive physical release of the movie, we're thrilled to share an exclusive featurette that played before the film when it returned to cinemas in June.
Filmed in London on 1 May, the event was presented by Edith Bowman and included guest of honour Britt Ekland, associate musical director from the film Gary Carpenter, the family of the director, and much more.
It's a fascinating look at the beloved film that adds a lot of context to the story behind the film, and this is the first time people outside of the Q&A and the summer solstice screening can watch the video.

In the 50 years since its original release, The Wicker Man has achieved true cult status as one of the most revered horror films in cinema history, despite a difficult production and heavily cut original theatrical release. The search for the fabled missing scenes has only added to the myth surrounding a film that still inspires filmmakers to this day.
This is the first ever 4K restoration of the so-called Final Cut of the Wicker Man which was first released on Blu-ray in 2013 after an extensive campaign to restore the film with the missing footage that was cut from the film back in 1973.
The Wicker Man is available on 4K UHD 5-Disc Collector’s Edition, Steelbook and Digital from 25 September. Watch a trailer below.
