'The Mandalorian: A Star Wars Sob Story': Watch cast get emotional about joining that galaxy far, far away
You wouldn't think landing a role in The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series — and the inaugural Disney+ series — premiering on the new streaming service this November, would faze accomplished veteran actors like Carl Weathers (Predator, Rocky, Happy Gilmore) and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Usual Suspects, Do the Right Thing).
You'd be wrong.
Both performers got emotional while discussing their entrances into the Star Wars universe when Yahoo Entertainment spoke to them at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif. (watch above).
"Dreams are big for me. I dreamed this moment, years ago, that I'd be here. I dreamed I'd be in Star Wars," an exuberant Esposito said. "I have that! I mean, it's mind-blowing, dude. You know what I mean? It's like, finally! Finally I'm here! And I've done great stuff. But finally, I've arrived."
"When [showrunner Jon Favreau] handed me a script and I read it, I was like, that’s when it was like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s on, I’m in, man,’" Weathers said. “So I’m just really happy that he thought of me, that he considered me, that I’m in it.”
MMA star-turned-actress Gina Carano (Fast and Furious 6, Deadpool) was feeling it, too.
"The most surreal moment was when I was introducing my character," Carano said. "This had been maybe a month into the filming and Jon Favreau came up to me and he said, 'We're gonna change the trajectory of your career right now. He gave me hope and confidence. I hope that comes across. I hope people capture how important, what a big move that was for me.
"After eight years in this business, I'm starting to finally feel what it is to act. And to be involved and be passionate about this. That took a long road."
