Teen with Special Needs Makes Incredible Half Court Shot at the Buzzer During Basketball Game
A Colorado teen who has Down Syndrome showed off his amazing skills when he made a buzzer-beater from half-court in a recent basketball game — and he has since become a social media star.
Cherry Creek High School junior Andrew Regan is a player on the school district’s “Unified” basketball team, which is made up of many students who have special needs and different abilities, according to USA Today.
During a matchup at the school on January 18, Regan came up with the ball while he was under the opponent’s basket. With just seconds to go and time ticking down in the third quarter, Regan hustled down the court, took a couple of large steps, and heaved the ball into the air from the half-court line — and sunk it in right at the buzzer.
Footage of the incredible shot shows the crowd immediately breaking out into applause for Regan, who lifted his hands in the air and got high-fives from everyone lining the stands before jumping into his cheering teammates.
“That was surreal,” Regan told CBS 4 after the game. “When I said surreal, it felt like amazing to me.”
And Regan’s teammates were equally as proud and excited for the talented junior, even if some of them weren’t surprised!
“[Regan’s] making that shot every day at [the gym],” Regan’s best friend, Ben Miller, told the news station. “I was just waiting for it in a game.”
Videos of the shot were later uploaded to the school’s social media pages and garnered more than 100,000 views, and Regan is enjoying the attention.

“Thank you so much for your support, all your likes on Twitter,” he said. “Thank you so much. I can’t do this without you guys. I’ll never let you down.”
The proud moment comes a few years after Regan and his family experienced tragedy — his father, who taught him basketball when he was just five years old, died when he was 11, according to CBS 4.
“He’s my friend. My dad’s my friend. I love my dad so much,” Regan said of his dad, before commenting on the support he has gotten from all of his family and friends.
“My dad, my brother, my mom, they are all my friends, I love them so much,” he continued. “I just want to hug them and squeeze their hearts out.”
