Is Taylor Swift ruining football? David Letterman to haters who hate, hate, hate: 'Shut up'
David Letterman has a message for every Taylor Swift-hating, NFL-watching, 'she's ruining football' sports fan spouting bad blood against the famous pop idol: "Shut up."
Monday on social media, the Indiana native and TV host took several jabs against Swift's critics, some of whom are upset by the multiple Grammy winner's presence at Kansas City Chiefs football games where she can be seen cheering boyfriend Travis Kelce.

Swift has been accused in the past of having a negative impact both on Kelce and the Chiefs — who won Sunday's AFC championship game and are headed to the Super Bowl. Critics also have suggested Swift, TIME magazine's Person of the Year, is using Kelce and the NFL to boost her own profile.
Letterman is having none of it.
"This is such a lovely thing. Shut up," Letterman said in a video posted to Instagram.
David Letterman calls Taylor Swift 'a glowing bright light of goodness in the world'
"We live in a world now where all we hear is nonsense and ugliness. And the nonsense can’t be more nonsensical and the ugliness, God hopes it can’t get any uglier, but that’s all we hear. And now here’s Taylor Swift, who is a glowing bright light of goodness in the world, and she starts dating Kelsey Grammer,” Letterman said, confusing Kelce's name either intentionally or unintentionally for comedic effect.
Among other career highlights, Grammer is perhaps best known as the actor who starred in the title role of TV's Frasier. A person off camera corrected Letterman, who continued.
“The (Kelce) people say, ‘Oh, no, no, no, don’t bother us. We’re all caught up in football. We don’t want Taylor and football.’ And the Taylor Swift people, the Swifties, are saying, ‘Oh, we don’t want a footballer in here with (Kelce),'” Letterman said. “And I say to both camps, ‘This is such a lovely thing. Shut up! It's good for the footballers. It’s good for Taylor Swift and it’s something positive and happy for the world."
Letterman concluded his remarks nodding to Swift's clout, then finished by saying, "God bless Taylor Swift and (Kelce).”
The Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers during Super Bowl 58 on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas. Swift, who will perform in Tokyo the night before, could still feasibly make it to the Super Bowl in time to cheer on Kelce.
