Taylor Swift Is Godmother to These Celeb Kids: Everything She (and the Families) Have Said About the Honor
Taylor Swift is the godmother of Jaime King's son Leo and Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' children
Taylor Swift is a proud godmother.
The “Fortnight” singer first became a godparent in July 2015 when her friend Jaime King welcomed her second child, Leo Thames, and named Swift the godmother. Since then, Swift has shared sweet glimpses of her bond with her godson, including dedicating performances to him at her concerts.
In July 2024, Swift revealed she was a godmother again — this time to Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ kids. In a post praising Reynolds’ latest movie Deadpool & Wolverine, Swift wrote, "Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids' sperm donor," referencing Reynolds' onscreen character's name.
Like her bond with Leo, Swift shares a special connection with Lively and Reynolds’ children, who call her “aunt” Taylor.
Notably, she referred to the couple’s oldest three kids, James, Inez and Betty, on her Folklore album and has given them several sweet shoutouts at her Eras Tour as she performs the song with their namesakes.
Here’s everything to know about Taylor Swift’s sweet bond with her godchildren.

Jaime King picked Taylor Swift as her son’s godmother because of how hard-working she is
Just before welcoming Leo, King spoke with PEOPLE about why she chose Swift as her son’s godmother, adding that she already knew she was going to be incredible in the role.
“It wasn’t because it was this person and the name. It was really because of her morals and her values, the way that she treats people and how hard-working she is … her family and how close she is to them,” King explained. ”I see what she gives out there to her fans and to her family. That’s the kind of person I want to be the guide and the spiritual protector of my child.”
She flew to see her godson during her 1989 Tour
When King gave birth to Leo in July 2015, Swift jet-setted to Los Angeles to pay him a special visit amid her 1989 World Tour. “Meeting my boy,” the singer captioned a photo of herself cuddling the newborn at the time.
A second image of Leo Thames’ hand curled around Swift’s included the lyric “Your little hand’s wrapped around my finger and it’s so quiet in the world tonight…” from her song “Never Grow Up.”

Taylor Swift dedicated her song “Never Grow Up” to Jaime King’s son
A month after Leo’s birth, Swift gave a special shoutout to the newborn during her 1989 concert in Santa Clara, Calif. As she sang “Never Grow Up” on stage, she dedicated the number to her godson.
“I wrote it when I was 18 or 19, but my friend just had a baby and she made me [his] godmother. I was holding this little baby the other night and I was just thinking differently,” she told the crowd. “You’re holding onto something that’s so innocent and so perfect and has no idea what’s coming for it with the world. The world is going to throw so many things at you as we grow up.”
She revealed her godmother role to Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' children in a funny way
Though Swift had shared many sweet moments with Lively and Reynolds’ children previously, she didn’t officially announce she was their godmother until July 2024. While promoting Reynolds’ new movie Deadpool & Wolverine, Swift brought the jokes in her caption, in which she teased Reynolds by praising his [faux] rival Hugh Jackman instead.
She ended the post in the most Deadpool way by writing, “Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids' sperm donor," referencing Reynolds' onscreen character's name.
She has featured Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ kids in her music
Lively and Reynolds’ oldest three kids have made a handful of appearances in Taylor Swift songs through the years. The first song that featured one of their children was her Reputation track “Gorgeous” in which their eldest daughter James made a voice cameo.
Years later, Swift referenced their daughters James, Inez and Betty by name in her Folklore track “Betty.” As she talked about the song on country radio, she explained the meaning behind the single, while confirming the inspiration behind the names.
"I named all the characters in this story after my friends' kids... and I hope you like it!" Swift concluded the message.
(Before Reynolds revealed the name of his fourth child with Lively, he joked, "we always wait for Taylor to tell us" what their kids' names will be.)

She shouted out Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ daughters at the Eras Tour
While performing in Philadelphia for the Eras Tour in May 2023, Swift shouted out Lively and Reynolds’ daughters before performing “Betty” on stage.
“There are a few of the characters [in ‘Betty’] that I actually, fun fact, named after real people in my life who I love more than anything,” Swift said, before adding, “And their names are James, Inez and Betty.”
A year later, Swift gave them another shoutout as they attended the concert with Lively and Reynolds in Madrid. Speaking on stage, the musician strummed her guitar and said, "I have to say that on Folklore, some of my favorite characters are named James, Inez and Betty."
During the concert, the girls could be seen dancing and singing along to Swift’s performance of “Shake It Off.” Following the show, Swift could be seen holding hands with their eldest daughter James as they made their way out of the stadium.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ kids didn’t initially know Taylor Swift was famous
During an appearance on Sirius XM's The Jess Cagle Show in November 2022, Reynolds opened up about his girls, noting that they didn’t fully understand the level of Swift’s fame at first. (In fact, they may have just thought she was the extremely pricey babysitter, he has joked.)
"I think what's most exciting for them is that for the longest time they just thought Taylor's just like an aunt, like a friend of Mommy and Daddy that's very, very close, almost family," he explained. "And then they went to a concert one day and were like, 'Ohhhhh, this isn't a hobby.'"
Reynolds added that his daughters were thrilled when Swift dropped her new album Midnights and had already planned a "Midnights dance party" following his interview. "We're headed straight to the porch where we're doing a full dance number set to Midnights,” he said.
