SZA Counts New Platinum Plaques As ‘SOS Deluxe: LANA’ Sees Update
SZA continues to take her career to new heights. The R&B singer recently added more than a dozen plaques to her collection. Last weekend (Feb. 8), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the 35-year-old with 28 new certifications to add to her growing collection.
“Used To” with Don Toliver, “Awkward,” “Prom,” and “Pretty Little Birds” are among the singles earning their first platinum certification. “Tread Carefully,” “Forgiveless” featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and “Far” are among those reaching gold status.
Included in the recognition is a 5x platinum certification for CTRL. Additionally, SOS was updated to 6x platinum certification. The achievements arrived the day before the Top Dawg Entertainment signee took the field with former TDE representative Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, where together they performed “Luther” and “All The Stars.”
“Yeah, I didn’t expect that at all,” shared SZA of K. Dot asking her to join him ahead of the big game, per Uproxx. “I was on the internet like everyone else being like, ‘Oh, he’s about to eat that sh*t. Eat it down,” adding, “I just knew that he was not going to ask me. ‘Cause that would be crazy. And he did! And I laughed. And I was like, ‘Okay.’”
She continued, “Because I just feel like he’s so flawless. I’ve never seen a flaw in any performance or any offering that he’s ever given and I just wanna be, you know, on par with that energy to give as much as I can.”
Super Bowl LIX was likely not the last time the pair will join each other in performance this year. The duo is set to kick off the global Grand National stadium tour this spring. The journey takes Kendrick Lamar and SZA across the world with stops in Los Angeles, Toronto, Paris, Atlanta, London, and more.
As the Grammy winners took the field at the Super Bowl, fans were treated to an additional update to SOS Deluxe: LANA. The four additions are as follows: “Joni” featuring Don Toliver, “Take You Down,” “Open Arms (just SZA),” and “PSA.”
