Sydney Sweeney’s rep blasts ‘shameful’ Hollywood producer Carol Baum for ‘attack’ on looks, acting: ‘How sad’
A rep for Sydney Sweeney isn’t feeling too euphoric over Hollywood producer Carol Baum claiming the actress is “not pretty” and “can’t act.”
“How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman,” a spokesperson for the two-time Emmy nominated actress told The Post on Wednesday.
“If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful. To unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms Baum’s character,” they added.
The rep’s response comes after Baum reportedly said at the Jacob Burns Center in Pleasantville, NY, last week, “She’s not pretty, she can’t act. I don’t get Sydney Sweeney.”
Baum, whose work includes “Father of the Bride” and “Shining Through,” claimed Sweeney’s hit romcom “Anyone But You” opposite Glen Powell is “unwatchable.”
“I wanted to know who she is and why everybody’s talking about her,” Baum reportedly told the audience.
“I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?’” she said, recalling a conversation she had with her students at The University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. “Nobody had an answer.”
The event moderator, Janet Maslin, confirmed Baum’s scathing review on X following the screening.
“It IS unwatchable,” she said of “Anyone But You.”
“Carol Baum said this after we screened ‘Dead Ringers’ at the Jacob Burns Film Center and she mentioned having seen ‘Anyone But You’ on a plane. But “Dead Ringers,” b/o a book Baum optioned 10 years before David Cronenberg adapted it, gets better and better,” Maslin claimed.
Even after her harsh critique, Baum admitted she would take on a project if Sweeney starred in it.
“We all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know,” she said. “Your job is to get the movie made.”
