Sweet! Gourmet cupcake, ice cream shop opens third Jacksonville store
A bakery popular for its gourmet cupcakes, wedding and other specialty cakes as well as ice cream, cookies and brownies is welcoming guests to its third Jacksonville-area dessert shop.
Smallcakes Cupcakery & Creamery opens its newest shop at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at 10111 San Jose Blvd. Suite 1 at Crown Point Plaza in Mandarin.
"We typically have between 22 and 24 flavors of cupcakes. Our most popular probably is strawberry cheesecake, which is a special we do a couple of times a week," said Brian J. Smith, who co-owns the three area shops with his wife, Stacie.
He said Red Velvet, Wedding Cake and Strawberry also are very popular.
Other cupcakes topping the daily menu include:
Pink Vanilla or Pink Chocolate: A vanilla or chocolate cupcake frosted with signature pink buttercream
The Chocoholic: Chocolate cupcake frosted with chocolate buttercream and sprinkled with chocolate shavings
Hot Fudge Sundae: Chocolate cupcake frosted with buttercream and finished with chopped peanuts, hot fudge drizzle and a cherry on top
Lemon Drop: Vanilla bean cake filled with a tart lemon filling then iced with lemon buttercream
Sinful Caramel: Vanilla bean cake topped with caramel buttercream and garnished with sea salt
Sweet treats: Downtown Jacksonville just got sweeter with the opening of a late-night bakery that delivers

Smallcakes also offers monthly specialty cupcakes ranging from strawberry cheesecake to Biscoff Cookie Butter, Key Lime and Cinnamon roll, according to the menu.
Cupcakes cost $4.25 each, $22.50 for a half dozen and $42.50 for a dozen, the shop's website shows.
Daily ice cream flavors include Birthday Surprise, Chocolate, Strawberry, Red Velvet, Vanilla Bean, Cookies & Cream and Butter Pecan, according to the menu.
Smallcakes also offers artisan wedding and other cakes made to order.
