Superman & Lois Series Finale Begins Production, Title Revealed
Superman & Lois star Elizabeth Tulloch has announced the start of production for the series finale of the fan-favorite DC superhero series.
In a post on Instagram, the Lois Lane actor revealed that filming has begun on the series finale of Superman & Lois, titled “It Went By So Fast.” The episode was written by Brent Fletcher and Todd Helbing and is being directed by Gregory Smith.
“Tried to take a normal ‘First day of filming the #SupermanAndLois series finale!’ selfie, but quickly ended up in tears. What a beautiful ride this has been,” Tulloch wrote in the Instagram post’s caption. “So grateful. Especially to our crew – this final season has been tough physically and emotionally on everyone and I see you and how hard you are working and I am so appreciative of you all.”
She also explained why she only tagged her co-star Tyler Hoechlin in the second photo she shared, which featured the actor tearing up, writing that “he’s the one who said something sentimental that got me going. @trishymakeup’s going to have an extra hard day today re-doing my eye makeup and it’s all your fault.”
Superman & Lois is The CW’s final DC show
When Superman & Lois concludes it will mark the end of almost 20 years of DC superhero content on The CW. Developed by Todd Helbing and Greg Berlanti, Superman & Lois focuses on Clark Kent (Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Tulloch) returning to Smallville to raise their twin sons Jonathan (Michael Bishop) and Jordan (Alex Garfin). While Superman & Lois was initially conceived as another entry in the fan-favorite Arrowverse, the creatives ultimately decided during Season 2 to set the show on its own Earth, allowing them more storytelling freedom.
With The CW changing ownership after the third season, Superman & Lois’ budget has been drastically cut for its fourth and final season. This has resulted in the show’s large ensemble cast being trimmed from 12 to five, with only Hoechlin, Tulloch, Bishop, Garfin, and Michael Cudlitz (Lex Luthor) being series regulars for the final season.
However, the show has added new cast members, with Yvonne Chapman and Douglas Smith set to appear in a recurring capacity as Amanda McCoy and Jimmy Olsen, respectively. Chapman’s Amanda McCoy is described as being part of “Luthor’s inner circle” while Smith’s Jimmy Olsen is “an extroverted 20-something known for being the ‘life of the party’ around the office.”
Superman & Lois Season 4 is expected to premiere on The CW in the fall of 2024.
