Streaming Ratings: ‘Cross’ Debuts at No. 1, ‘The Penguin’ Charts After Finale
The opening week of Cross was a big one for Prime Video.
The Amazon-owned streamer claimed the No. 1 overall spot on Nielsen’s streaming charts for Nov. 11-17 as Cross drew 1.36 billion minutes of viewing (the full eight-episode season premiered Nov. 14). The crime drama, starring Aldis Hodge and based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels, ranks as Prime Video’s second-best new series debut of 2024 behind Fallout. (Amazon says 40 million viewers worldwide watched at least some of Cross over its first three weeks of release.)

While Cross had a big opening, HBO’s DC Comics-based series The Penguin made its first appearance on the Nielsen charts for the week after its finale. The series had 595 million viewing minutes on Max for the week — and apparently has been landing just outside the acquired series top 10 for most of its run. Nielsen says The Penguin amassed 3.8 billion minutes of viewing on Max in the eight-plus weeks since its premiere (plus 650 million more from linear airings on HBO).
The streaming premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine also put up big numbers, landing in second place overall with 1.34 billion minutes of watch time on Disney+. The previous week’s No. 1, Outer Banks, dipped to third place overall but still amassed 1.17 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix.
Also of note: Prior seasons of Yellowstone (620 million minutes on Peacock) returned to the charts following the premiere of season 5B on Paramount Network, and Netflix’s cheeky holiday film Hot Frosty (439 million minutes) ranked third among movies.
Not on the charts for the week was Netflix’s Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight, for which the streamer claimed massive worldwide viewing. Nielsen doesn’t include live sports in its streaming charts, and the Paul-Tyson match was classified as such. (That’s also why Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football telecasts, which would otherwise top the charts most weeks, aren’t ever included.)
Nielsen’s streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and don’t include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure U.S. audiences, not those in other countries. The top streaming titles for Nov. 11-17, 2024, are below.
