Stream the 'Gone Girl' soundtrack and be very unnerved

Now you can spend your day feeling deeply unsettled: NPR is streaming Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ Gone Girl soundtrack in full. As is probably to be expected given the source material and people involved, the music which scores David Fincher’s adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel about a missing woman and a toxic marriage is thoroughly creepy.

However, there’s also an unnerving sweetness to it. According to an interview with Time Out, Fincher said he told his now-frequent collaborators Reznor and Ross, “I want you to give me your version of spa music. These sort of endless loops that play when you’re getting a shiatsu. Because I know it’ll be disquieting. And I know it’ll take root somewhere in my spine and upset me for weeks on end.” NPR explains it as such: “Reznor and Ross relish being at their most beauteous, knowing that it’ll make the brutal moments of Gone Girl all the more harrowing.” (No spoilers.)

The movie has its world premiere at the New York Film Festival tomorrow night.
