Strange days: Performer returns with pop-up museum of oddities
For those interested in the strange and unusual, George McArthur again has the answer.
The performance artist is back with his George the Giant's Strange Museum of Oddities & Wonders, a pop-up event that kicks off Friday.
This is the fifth year that McArthur has gathered his odd, unusual, haunted and bizarre treasures to display in a limited-engagement venue.
Likened to a "dark carnival," the museum will highlight weird and strange art such as matchstick carvings, portraits made out of with dryer lint, and even jewelry made with human hair as well as haunted dolls and other items.
An additional True Crime room will offer a collection of letters and art from some of the world's most notorious individuals like Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, and Charles Manson, viewable for an additional fee.
Fellow collector William Harder, who maintains an auction website for true crime memorabilia, will offer an enhanced after-hours experience on Oct. 12, 25 and 26, sharing about his time with Manson and other individuals he has met over the years. These special events will include additional items on display in the True Crime room.
As part of the pop-up, McArthur will also display his own sideshow feats like sword swallowing and driving a nail into his nose.
Tonight's opening will feature a special "Bizarre Bazaar" with vendors of the strange and weird.
The museum will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. Oct. 11, 18 and 25, 2 to 10 p.m. Oct. 12, 19 and 26 or by appointment, 314 Norris Road.
Admission is $10 (plus fees), $5 to add the True Crime room. The evenings with Harder, which will be held at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 12, 25 and 26, are $25 (plus fees).
