Stevie Nicks on the advice she gave Katy Perry to live with fame: 'Get off the internet'
About a decade ago, rock 'n' roll virtuoso Stevie Nicks gave pop star Katy Perry some advice about how to see music as a "Woman's World."
Back then, Perry was telling the Fleetwood Mac singer "about the internet armies of all the girl singers, and how cruel and rancid they were," Nicks told Rolling Stone in an interview published Thursday. The "Landslide" singer had an interesting response: "Well, I wouldn’t know because I’m not on the internet," Nicks recalled telling Perry. "She said, 'So, who are your rivals?' I just looked at her. It was my steely look. I said, 'Katy, I don’t have rivals. I have friends. All the other women singers that I know are friends. Nobody’s competing. Get off the internet and you won’t have rivals either.'"
USA TODAY has reached out to reps for Nicks and Perry for comment.

Nicks previously opened up about her meeting with Perry at London's Corinthia Hotel in a similar 2022 article in The New Yorker. "So, Stevie, who are your rivals?” Nicks recounted to The New Yorker. "And I said, “ 'I don’t have rivals.' And her big blue eyes got bigger and bluer. And I said, 'No, Katy, I don’t, and neither do you. You are Katy Perry, you’re who you are, you do what you do and you’re great at it."
At the time, she continued her retelling of the incident, saying that she said "'I’m Stevie Nicks, I do what I do and I’m great at it. We don’t have rivals. That’s just ridiculous.' And she said, “Well, there’s, like, the Taylor Swift army and there’s, like, the Katy army and there’s like—” before Nicks said "you have to just walk away from that. Don’t carry that around in your mind because then they’re winning this game.”
Katy Perry, Taylor Swift used to have 'Bad Blood' until they buried feud
The pair of A-list popstars had a long running feud, which was made widely public with the release of Swift's 2014 song "Bad Blood."
It lasted until Perry sent Swift, who was on her Reputation World Tour, posted an Instagram Story, of a literal olive branch in 2018. A year later, the pair teamed up together in Swift's "You Need To Calm Down" video.
The friendship seems to have stuck. The "Firework" singer attended Swift's Eras Tour concert in February and last month when Perry accepted the Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs from her partner Orlando Bloom, Swift looked supportive.

In her speech, Perry praised the "amazing" young artists who are "operating with confidence, agency, vulnerability and authenticity." She also offered similar advice as Nicks once seemingly offered her: don't let social media affect you.
"I learned how to block out all of the noise that every single artist in this industry has to constantly fight against, especially women," she said. "I just want to say with my whole heart, do whatever it takes to stay true to yourself and true to your art. Turn off social media. Safeguard your mental health. Pause. Touch grass. And do what you were born to do, just like I was born to do this."
Stevie Nicks wants Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce to 'get married and have babies' if they want to
Speaking of Swift, Nicks also opened up about including her friendship with the Eras Tour brainchild, adding that she "is really smart, but she also went through a lot before. She’s in a good place right now" and hopes she has "babies."
"I think she has a good man. I hope they fall deeper and deeper in love and ride off into the sunset," Nicks said, in reference to the "Karma" singer's Kansas City Chiefs tight end boyfriend Travis Kelce. "He does his thing, and she does her thing, and then they come back together and get married and have babies if she wants that. I just want all of that for her."
