Steve Martin Declines Role of Tim Walz on SNL
Kamala Harris may have found her running mate in Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, but Maya Rudolph is yet to find her very own Saturday Night Live VP candidate.
With Harris set to run for President, it was announced that Rudolph will return to SNL to play her throughout the 2024 election.
Rudolph first stepped up to the plate in 2019 during the Democratic primaries, and then again in 2020 when she was announced as Biden's running mate. Now back reprising her role, who will now join her to play Tim Walz? We know who won't be playing him.
SNL's legendary producer Lorne Michaels offered the role to social media's top pick Steve Martin, but Martin couldn't turn it down fast enough.
"I wanted to say no and, by the way, [Lorne] wanted me to say no," the comedian told the Los Angeles Times.
Martin gave his reason, saying, "I said, 'Lorne, I’m not an impressionist. You need someone who can really nail the guy.' I was picked because I have gray hair and glasses."
The physical resemblance between the two was not enough to lure Martin back to SNL as the role is ongoing.
"It's not like you do it once and get applause and never do it again," Martin tells the Times. "They need a real impressionist to do that. They're gonna find somebody really, really good. I'd be struggling."
SNL is still on the hunt for their Walz.
