Steve Buscemi is a new series regular, along with Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor; Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo are also bumped up to series regulars after appearing in the first season.
“We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces,” series creators/writers/showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar said in a joint statement.
“Wednesday” was the most popular English TV series on Netflix with 252.10 million views for the debut season. The series spent 20 weeks on the Global Top 10 and reached the Top 10 in 93 countries.
Tim Burton directs and executive produces the show that centers on the titular Addams Family teen daughter, played by Jenna Ortega. The actress will produce Season 2, along with executive producers Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, Karen Richards, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman, and Meredith Averill.
Paco Cabezas and Angela Robinson will direct Season 2 in addition to Burton.
Ortega told E! News that the second installment is “definitely leaning into more horror.”
“I’ve received some scripts for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into more horror,” Ortega said. “It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while Wednesday does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes, and that’s the wonderful thing about her. There’s really, really good one-liners, and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”
Ortega previously told Variety’s Actors on Actors that Season 2 is “ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great. We’re going to get bolder, more dark.”
In addition to filming “Wednesday,” Ortega reunited with Burton for “Beetlejuice 2.”
