Steve Burton Reveals The Moment He Almost Walked Off General Hospital Set
Steve Burton is known for telling tales about his three decades on General Hospital, but the actor just revealed a moment on set that was a first for him.
An Emotional Scene
On a recent episode of Daily Drama — Burton’s podcast with fellow GH star Bradford Anderson, who captured the moment they reunited on set — he shared the first time he ever considered walking off set. “That was a very hard scene for me to do,” Burton admitted about the scene in the March 27, 2024 episode when Jason got an unexpected surprise before his arraignment.
While waiting in the interrogation room, Jason got a visit from Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton), who gave him a letter from his mother, Monica (Leslie Charleson, who reprised her role in December 2023 for a short stint). The letter read, “Jason, I believe in you,” and brought the typically stonecold character to tears as he read it.
The Almost Walk-Off
Burton revealed those tears weren’t just an act. “I was so emotional, I couldn’t even get it out,” he shared with Anderson about his lines. He even questioned whether he should keep going or call cut.
“I was literally going to walk off the set,” he admitted before saying he knew to stay because it can be hard to get back in the zone of the scene again. “Next take, it’s not going to be the same.”
Anderson was also fascinated by the prop letter, asking if it was handwritten or typed. The actors shared that GH’s prop team has someone who specializes in different styles of handwriting for props like that. “She’s a doctor, so it might be, like, chicken scratch,” Anderson joked of Monica’s penmanship.
