Stephen Colbert celebrates making a cameo at DNC: 'I got more airtime than AOC!'
On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, airing live following Wednesday’s Democratic National Convention, Colbert had a reason to celebrate: He had made an unexpected cameo at the convention. The intro reel for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi played a short clip of Pelosi on The Late Show.
“If you wanna go into the arena, you have to be prepared to take a punch.” Pelosi said in the clip. “You also have to be prepared to throw a punch… for the children.” “Throw a punch for the children,” Colbert replied, laughing.
“Wooooo! That’s right! I was on the reel! I got more airtime than AOC!” Colbert responded Wednesday after showing the clip. “I’m part of American history because I spoke to Nancy Pelosi, and because I used to be able to sit within three feet of senior citizens!”
Colbert may have been just a bit off on screen time though. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke Tuesday night for roughly a minute while the clip with Pelosi was only about 15 seconds. And Colbert’s celebration was short-lived.
“Wow. Uh, ladies and gentleman, I did not see this coming. I did not expect it. I get it. But I did not see this coming,” Colbert said, feigning disbelief. “It’s such an honor. Yes, I accept your nomination. Thank you. Thank you… And I’m being told I’m misreading the moment. My apologies. Let’s uh — where were we?”
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
