‘Squid Game 3’ unveils final season date, frightening new photos (who’s in the casket?)
Squid Game fans experienced an agonizing three-year red light between Seasons 1 and 2. But the wait for Season 3 will be much more manageable.
Netflix has announced the final season will debut on June 27. That’s a mere six months after the last cycle dropped on Dec. 26, 2024. In addition, the streamer unveiled several frightening new photos (see below), including those depicting Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun covered in blood, Park Gyu-young as Kang No-eul without her triangle guard mask, Lee Byung-hun as Hwang In-ho holding his Front Man mask, and a group of characters mourning over a casket.

“I’ve got good news for anyone who binged Season 2 of Squid Game over the holidays,” said Bela Bajaria, chief content officer of Netflix. “I can officially announce that the final season is coming out on June 27. And I have a sneak peek of Season 3 — but let’s keep it between us so we don’t upset the Front Man.”
In the mostly silent clip, which was shown to journalists who attended Wednesday’s Next on Netflix event at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, all of the remaining players who survived the gun battle at the end of the Season 2 finale are taking part in their next game. One by one, they approach a giant gumball machine and turn the lever, which separates them into two groups depending on whether they receive a blue or red ball. The mother and son characters, Kang Ae-shim as Jang Geum-ja and Yang Dong-geun as Park Yong-sik, get split up, but they try to remain hopeful since they have no idea what the new game will require of them.
Squid Game is one of Netflix’s “biggest shows ever,” noted Bajaria, along with Stranger Things and Wednesday, which are also returning in 2025 with Seasons 5 and 2, respectively.
The Korean horror series from Hwang Dong-hyuk set a new record for Season 2 with 68 million views in its first four days, between Dec. 26 and Dec. 30. Season 1 of Squid Game won six Emmys in 2022 for drama actor (Lee), drama guest actress (Lee You-mi), drama directing (Hwang), production design, stunt performance, and visual effects. Season 2 will be eligible at the upcoming 2025 Emmys, and Season 3 at the 2026 Emmys.
