South Carolina coach Dawn Staley, rapper Flavor Flav form unlikely dynamic duo at Paris Olympics
An unlikely friendship is beginning to develop at the start of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley debuted her matching Taylor Swift-inspired friendship bracelet with former Public Enemy rapper Flavor Flav, who has become the unofficial hype man and financial backer for the U.S. women’s water polo team.

Traveling as part of an official U.S. presidential delegation with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Staley documented her second day of activities Friday, which included stops to see the Olympic torch and a visit to the Team USA house.

Staley won gold medals as a player for the Team USA women’s basketball team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, the 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2004 Athens Olympics. She served as the coach of Team USA when it won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Staley also was named a United States flag bearer during the opening ceremony in Athens.
The presidential delegation includes Denise Campbell Bauer, the U.S. ambassador to France; Sen. Chris Coons, Delaware; Sen. Alex Padilla, California; Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass; Casey Wasserman, chairman of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games; and Olympic champion figure skater Brian Boitano.
