‘SNL’ Invited Us to Trim the Tree with the Trumps
Alec Baldwin reprised his duck-lipped and crimson-jowled impression of our dear President in a Saturday Night Live cold open that found the first family and friends trimming a Christmas tree in true Trumpian style - by decorating it with ornaments bearing the faces of Trump enemies.
After quick appearances by Kate McKinnon as Kellyanne Conway and Aidy Bryant as Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Vice President Mike Pence, played by Beck Bennett, stopped by. “Are you here to deck the halls, Mike?” Baldwin asked. “Oh, I don’t like that song because it mentions ‘gay apparel,” Bennet replied. Then he got down to business: "The ornament I brought is that traitorous Mike Flynn, because he lied to us Mr. President,” said Bennett, turning towards the audience. "And he acted alone, without our knowledge.”
As the Trump children joined the tree trimming - including a guest appearance by Scarlett Johansson as Ivanka and a reprisal of Alex Moffat’s always hilarious Eric - Omarosa (Leslie Jones) knocked on the White House window, holding aloft a stereo playing The Apprentice theme song, Say Anything-style. Jones drew big laughs, and was escorted away by the Secret Service, but the sketch's most memorable moment was still McKinnon's second appearance: as an elf on a shelf Jeff Sessions.
