Will Smith is taking a moment to publicly appreciate some important people in his life—and the gesture has hit fans right in the heartstrings.

On Monday, Sept. 2, the Bad Boys film franchise star took to Instagram to share a tribute to his "fierce protectors," posting photos with his dad, oldest son Trey—whom he shares with ex-wife, Sheree Zampino—and a few other recognizable faces.

The cover image—a black-and-white throwback image from his now-31-year-old firstborn's childhood—displayed three generations, as the then-young boy was perched upon his dad's shoulders as he leaned over, smiling just above his grandpa, Willard Carroll Smith, Sr.'s head.
