'Shrek 5'?
It's been four years since “Shrek Forever After" premiered, and it now looks like a fifth installment in the Shrek franchise might be in the pipeline.
“I think you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series,” DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg told Fox Business in an interview Tuesday. “We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he.”

The films have been a huge success in the 14 years since the first “Shrek” movie hit theaters. Collectively, they have grossed $2.9 billion worldwide. In an interview with The Age from 2007, Katzenberg credited the first film with defining DreamWorks Animation and saving the company financially.

In that same interview, he talked about his vision for the franchise, which he believed would span five films, the fifth of which might be a prequel to the first four.
“It’s a finite story, has been from the beginning and I think that’s part of its integrity, part of its strength, that we’re not thinking this up as we go,” he said. “Ultimately we will come back to understand how Shrek arrived in the swamp. We will reveal his story.”
It’s unclear at this time what steps have been taken to make a new film. No one from DreamWorks Animation was immediately available for comment.
DreamWorks this week announced a deal to open a massive Shrek-themed attraction in London. The Guardian reports Shrek’s Far Far Away Adventure will be owned and operated by the same company responsible for the iconic London Eye ferris wheel, the London Dungeon and London Sea Life Aquarium – Merlin. The first of six attractions is scheduled to open in the summer of 2015, just in time for the film’s 15th anniversary.
