Shameik Moore And ‘Spider-Man’ Producer React To Loss At 2024 Oscars

Award show season is a happy time for many; sadly, many and all are two very different things. Shameik Moore and a Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse producer reacted to their loss at the Oscars in the Best Animated Feature category.

“*robbed,” Moore wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday evening (March 10). He used the asterisk as many do across social media to indicate a correction to a statement, signifying his belief that Spider-Man was more deserving than The Boy And The Heron, the category’s actual winner. Perhaps he felt like this victory would be a sure thing, as he previously tasted victory for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse in the same category in 2018.

Less than a half hour later, the 28-year-old actor shared more of his thoughts on X. “Respect to the winners,” he wrote. “It’s true, I’m definitely a sore loser, but we didn’t lose, Spiderverse has impacted ALOT of lives, we may not have been acknowledged tonight but life goes on.” He closed his tweet by saying the word “Beyond” in all caps, flipping this negative moment into positive hype for the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse film.

Christopher Miller, a writer and producer for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, reacted to the Oscars loss but used it as a moment to honor Hayao Miyazaki, the director of The Boy And The Heron. “Well, if you’re gonna lose, might as well lose to the GOAT,” he wrote on X.

Shameik Moore and Miller’s reactions were followed up by a slew of reactions from Spider-Man fans. “Across The Spider-Verse isn’t just the best animated film this year–it’s one of the best animated films of all-time,” an X user wrote. “Should’ve been up for best picture, too.”

The film was released in May 2023 and racked up almost $700 million at the box office. The cast included Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, and more.
