We Sensed It’s Time To Catch up With the Hilarious ‘Psych’ Cast
We know you know that we're telling the truth, because it's finally time to — wait for it — find out what James Roday Rodriguez, Dulé Hill and the rest of the Psych cast has been up to since the show ended 10 years ago. The series ran from 2006 until 2014 for a total of 119 episodes, which were followed by three made-for-TV movies with a fourth currently in development.
Psych followed the super observant Shawn Spencer (Roday Rodriguez), who pretends to be psychic so he can solve cases for the Santa Barbara Police Department. The show was hilarious, heartfelt and had a slow burn romance that had every viewer swooning.
Wanting to solve crimes alongside Shawn? Psych is available for streaming on Peacock and Amazon Prime Video.
James Roday Rodriguez
CHARACTER PLAYED: Shawn Spencer
BORN: April 4, 1976 in San Antonio, Texas.
BEST KNOWN FOR: Miss Match (2003), The Dukes of Hazzard (2005), Psych: The Movie (2017), A Million Little Things (2018 to 2023), Psych 2: Lassie Come Home (2020) and Psych 3: This Is Gus (2021).
PERSONAL: He used to go by James Roday, but added Rodriguez — his original last name — back in 2020.
THOUGHTS ON PSYCH: When asked what his favorite episode was, Roday Rodriguez said, "There was an episode where Dulé [Hill] and I had to jump from a boat into the Pacific Ocean. Dulé is not a fan of the colder temperatures, whereas I am the exact opposite of that — I'm an eskimo who doesn't like to sweat — and we were supposed to wear these suits under our clothes to keep us warm — like the ones divers wear. I said to Dulé, 'C'mon man, we don't need to wear those suits, it's going to be bulky...just man up, dude. It's not going to be that bad,' knowing it was going to be that bad. So, Dulé opted not to wear the suit, and when he came up for air, the look on his face, no words needed to be spoken. I really enjoyed that moment."
FUN FACT: Rodriguez and Dulé Hill made history by being the only two none-white leads on cable at that time. Hill is African American and Rodriguez is Latino.
Dulé Hill: Psych cast
CHARACTER PLAYED: Burton 'Gus' Guster
BORN: May 3, 1975 in Orange, New Jersey.
BEST KNOWN FOR: She's All That (1999), The West Wing (1999 to 2006), Holes (2003), Psych (2006 to 2014), Psych: The Movie (2017), Suits (2017 to 2019), Psych 2: Lassie Come Home (2020) and Psych 3: This Is Gus (2021), The Wonder Years (2021 to 2023).
PERSONAL: Hill was married to Nicole Lyn from 2004 to 2012. Then he married Jazmyn Simon in 2018; the couple have two children together.
THOUGHTS ON PSYCH: A running gag on the show is that there is a pineapple in each episode, Hill revealed where that came from, saying "It started in the pilot! The episode ends with Gus agreeing to go somewhere with Shawn and there's just a pineapple on the fridge, like it wasn't planned, I think it was just set decoration, and Roday — the improv genius that he is — picked it up and was like, 'Hey, want me to slice this up for the road?' And that's what started the whole thing. If I remember correctly, they were gonna take it out, and then they put it back in, and then they took it out again, but they settled on keeping it."
FUN FACT: Gus is often called "Peaches" by Shawn (Rodriguez) as a reference to Hill's character in Holes.
Timothy Omundson
CHARACTER PLAYED: Carlton Lassiter
BORN: St. Joseph, Missouri, on July 29, 1969.
BEST KNOWN FOR: Judging Amy (2000 t0 2005), Galavant (2015 t0 2016), Psych: The Movie (2017), Psych 2: Lassie Come Home (2020) Psych 3: This Is Gus (2021), This Is Us (2019 to 2022) and Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2024).
PERSONAL: Omundson has been married to Allison Cowley since 1997. They have two children together.
THOUGHTS ON PSYCH: Before filming for Psych: The Movie (2017) began, the actor suffered a stroke, which had to be written into his character's storyline. Omundson opened up about how this kind of mirrored his own life, explaining, "Lassiter was always, for lack of a better term, a guy with toxic masculinity who wouldn’t allow any cracks in. We’ve both been handed a massive, steaming plate of humility. Some things you just can’t fight, you’ve got to roll with it."
FUN FACT: Carlton's daughter on the show is named Lilly Nora in reference to Omundson's two daughters, Lilly and Nora.
Maggie Lawson: Psych cast
CHARACTER PLAYED: Juliet O'Hara
BORN: August 12, 1980 in Louisville, Kentucky.
BEST KNOWN FOR: Party of Five (1999), It's All Relative (2003 to 2004), Back in the Game (2013 t0 2014), Angel from Hell (2016), Psych: The Movie (2017), Psych 2: Lassie Come Home (2020) and Psych 3: This Is Gus (2021).
PERSONAL: Lawson was married to Benjamin Koldyke from 2015 t0 2017.
THOUGHTS ON PSYCH: One person who loves all the Psych movies? Lawson! The actress exclaims, "For us, keeping Psych present and alive is a priority. There’s still so much to do and stories to tell. We do have a script for Psych 4 — I’m allowed to say that. We don’t have the green light yet, but I know we’ve at least gotten that far. It’s a seed, and something can grow from it. Tim [Omundson] and I always joke about, 'What if we remade an episode or go back and do reunions or a talk show?' It may be in a different format. I feel like this world is meant to keep opening up. The podcast is the thing that’s keeping the family together every week. And from it, there are endless possibilities."
FUN FACT: Lawson and Rodriguez were dating for most of the show's run.
Corbin Bernsen
CHARACTER PLAYED: Henry Spencer
BORN: September 7, 1954 in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

PERSONAL: Bernsen was married to Brenda Cooper from 1983 until 1987. Then he married Amanda Pays in 1988 and the two have been together ever since. The pair have two children.
THOUGHTS ON PSYCH: "Over the years I've come down on one huge belief, it's all about the writing, it's all about the story, and to some degree with television, the characters."
FUN FACT: Bernsen is only 22 years older than Rodriguez, who plays his son in the show.
Kirsten Nelson: Psych cast
CHARACTER PLAYED: Karen Vick
BORN: October 3, 1970 in Enid, Oklahoma.

PERSONAL: Nelson has two children.
THOUGHTS ON PSYCH: The first Psych movie came out three years after the series wrapped, with Nelson remembering, "We had heard rumors and we had all joked about wanting to do a movie for years after we wrapped. So when it was actually happening, I was, like, 'I don’t care what it’s about … let’s do this.' They were all, like, 'Absolutely. If you need us to work 23-hour days or something, we will do that to make this thing happen.'"
FUN FACT: Nelson was pregnant during season one.
