See Throwback Photos of Helen Hunt, Keanu Reeves and More Stars at the 1996 Premiere of “Twister ”
The thriller film, released on May 10, 1996, premiered in L.A. with plenty of A-listers in attendance
It's been a whirlwind 28 years since the original Twister premiered.
Decades before Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones chased storms in 2024's Twisters, there was Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as Jo and Bill Harding — an estranged husband-wife duo working through their marital problems while tracking tornadoes. The disaster thriller was a box-office smash, becoming the year's second-highest-grossing film. It also landed two Academy Award nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.
The film, released on May 10, 1996, held its worldwide premiere two days earlier in Westwood, Calif. Hunt and Paxton were joined on the red carpet by costar Cary Elwes, as well as major celebs like Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Kevin Bacon, Rob Lowe, Keanu Reeves and more.
