Season 4 of ‘The White Lotus’ Could Take Place in Europe, HBO Exec Says
Europe is so nice, The White Lotus might just film there twice.
During a premiere event for season three, which takes place in Thailand, HBO’s EVP Francesca Orsi revealed where the fourth season of Mike White’s acclaimed social satire will film. “We’re going on some locations scouting in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll know soon,” Orsi told Deadline. “I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe.”

Fans of the Emmy-winning show will remember that after season one, which was set in Hawaii, season two filmed in Sicily, Italy, at the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in Taormina. While nothing has been officially confirmed by the network, Orsi clarified her answer, saying that a return to Europe was “likely” and noting that “while some countries on the map were mentioned, there’s nothing to share until location scouting happens.” In the meantime, there’s been plenty of chatter online about where in the world The White Lotus should shoot next. Some have suggested that the show head to the Palm Springs desert and even Iceland for a change of scenery.
Last month, HBO greenlit a fourth season of The White Lotus weeks before its season three premiere on February 16. Orsi, along with the network’s CEO and chairman Casey Bloys, admitted to visiting White in Thailand during filming to discuss the possibility of more seasons. “We were in Phuket, we were together at dinner, and, just as we were talking about the future, Mike’s like, What do you all think about, would you be interested in making more? We’re, well, if you want to make more, we’re here. Really, as long as Mike has something to say, I think we’ll be behind,” Orsi told Deadline.

Rumors of an all-star White Lotus season à la Survivor or The Amazing Race are still going strong, too. White, who was a contestant on both reality competition shows, was the first one to float the idea, and the HBO bosses seem to be on board.
“I don’t think that’ll be Season 4, but that’s still on the horizon,” Orsi admitted. “It’s still in discussion but it’s too early. I imagine he is going to go beyond four. He hasn’t confirmed it, but I think he has more to say than just one more season.” The third installment, which hits TV screens this Sunday, is already being praised as the anthology’s best. Orsi herself referred to it as a “piece of cinema” and “unlike anything else he’s [White’s] explored.”

Patrick Schwarzenegger, who plays season three star Saxon Ratliff, told Robb Report in an interview that fans are in store for a super-sized chapter compared to the previous two. “This season is completely different,” he said. “There is way more actors, bigger productions, bigger sets, more locations, more weaving of characters stories. Just the idea of Thailand—the culture there and the darkness of it. Mike’s taking swings every which way and it’s admirable. It’s White Lotus on steroids, basically. Everything has kind of leveled up.”
