School vacation week at New Bedford Whaling Museum
The New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill, invites families to visit during school vacation week, with various activities planned, as well as events honoring Black History Month and Captain Paul Cuffe.
On Sunday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m., there will be a screening of “In the Whale” for World Whale Day. The film has an 81-minute run time, and there will be a Q&A with filmmaker David Abel following the screening. Tickets are $5 for members, and $10 for non-members. In honor of Black History Month, there will be a week full of daily activities and programs celebrating the legacy of Captain Paul Cuffe, an important abolitionist, entrepreneur, merchant, and whaling captain. Every day from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be a Black History story time and crafts, and a DIY silhouette portrait activity from 1 to 3 p.m.
On Friday, Feb. 23, visitors can enjoy free admission for the day, courtesy of the Highland Street Foundation.

Live music at Narrows Center for the Arts
The Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan St., Fall River, has a couple of concerts coming up.
On Friday, Feb. 16, Reed Foehl & His Band will be performing. Featuring Jefferson Hamer, Jeff Berlin, and Putnam Murdock, the show begins at 8 p.m. The opening act will be Monica Rizzio. Ronnie Earl & the Broadcasters will be at the Narrows on Saturday, Feb. 17. The legendary blues guitarist will take the stage at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $43 in advance, and $45 on the day of the show. Find tickets online at https://tinyurl.com/5n95as59.
See model trains at Children's Museum of Greater Fall River
The Old Colony & Fall River Railroad Museum presents a model train layout and displays, at the Children's Museum of Greater Fall River, 441 N. Main St. Get on track and check them out during school vacation week, Feb. 18, 22, and 23, from noon to 4 p.m. There is an admission fee. See ‘Antigone’ at Bristol Community College
Bristol Community College’s Theatre Program presents “Antigone,” from Thursday, Feb. 15, to Saturday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. The production will take place in the Studio Theatre (room H128), at the Jackson Arts Center, on the Bristol Fall River Campus, 777 Elsbree St. This will be the first production directed by a Bristol Theatre Program Student, Taylor Corbett, who will be mentored by Program Coordinator David Ledoux. In this classic Greek tragedy, Antigone explores duties to the state versus family, and whether female autonomy is possible in a patriarchal society. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for Bristol faculty/staff and non-Bristol students; and $5 for Bristol students. Children under 13 get in free. Winter Art Together at Somerset Public Library
Have an ongoing art project you’re working on? Stop by the Somerset Public Library, 1464 County St., for the latest Winter Art Together. On Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m., bring in your craft, art, project, etc., and work on it in a social environment, with snacks and a movie. This event is for tweens and teens, age 10 and older, and no registration is necessary. Participants must bring their own art supplies. The library appreciates donations of pre-packaged nut-free snacks.
Westport River Watershed Alliance hosts Winter Art Show
The Westport River Watershed Alliance is hosting its 11th annual Winter Art Show from Feb. 17 to March 2. This year, artists are celebrating the theme “Love Your River” in their works. The winter art show and silent auction kick off on Saturday, Feb. 17, from noon to 4 p.m. The silent auction will conclude along with the show on Saturday, March 2. The show is free and open to the public, in the Westport Art Group gallery, 1740 Main Rd. The show will also be online at 32Auctions.com, where bids can be placed on the artwork. Irish dance and music at New Bedford Art Museum
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, enjoy Irish dance and music at the New Bedford Art Museum, 608 Pleasant St., with Eight Feet Tall. From 6 to 8 p.m., see instruments, shoes, voices, and whole bodies enter into conversation with one another to create complex sonic textures amid vibrant visual interplay. February vacation workshops at Marion Art Center
The Marion Art Center, 80 Pleasant St., is hosting three February school vacation workshops for children, led by Benares Angeley. The workshops will be held in the downstairs MAC studio. The cost of each workshop is $35 for members, and $40 for non-members.
Cat Camp will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon.This program is for children ages 5 to 10; children will paint portraits of cats, sew a mini cat, make printed cat paper, and more.
Sew Fun will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m., and is for ages 8 to 10. Children will learn simple sewing techniques to create their own stuffed penguin, a fabric collage, and a tiny pillow.
Painted Houses & Homes will be on Friday, Feb. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m., welcoming children from ages 5 to 10. Students will design and create cardboard houses and embellish them with paint, glitter, markers, yarn, and more. They’ll also create tiny clay animals and people.

Fishing Heritage Center, Whaling Park screening sea scallop documentary
The New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center and New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park will host a free screening of the documentary, “Sustaining Sea Scallops,” on Friday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. The screening will be held at the National Park auditorium, 33 William St. This 2016 documentary produced by the Coonamessett Farm Foundation explores how fishermen and scientists along the East Coast have worked together to ensure the survival of Atlantic sea scallops. Winter Vacation Arts Camp at Four Corners Arts Center
Four Corners Arts Center, 3848 Main Rd., Tiverton, will be holding a Winter Vacation Arts Camp, from Feb. 19 to 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Youth artists ages 7 to 11 will explore a variety of art mediums, and get to tour some of the studios of working artists at Tiverton Four Corners. Winter Art Camp at New Bedford Art Museum
The New Bedford Art Museum is hosting a Winter Art Camp from Feb. 19 to 23, from 9 a.m. to noon. For grades 1 to 6; learn about art, and create some, including paintings, drawings, prints, collages, and clay sculptures. The cost is $150 for members, and $165 for non-members.
