Scarlett Johansson denies ex-Scientologist claims she 'auditioned' to go out with Tom Cruise
Scarlett Johansson has vehemently denied that the Church of Scientology ‘auditioned’ her be Tom Cruise’s girlfriend.
The claim has been made by Brendan Tighe, a former member the group’s security detail, who says that ‘interviews’ took place after Cruise split with Nicole Kidman in 2001.
He said that a report detailing the audition was accidentally sent to his printer, and added that the interview with the actress ‘did not go well’.
“Another actress, Erika Christensen, had to disconnect from Scarlett Johansson because it didn’t go well. That was in that report,” he added.
A rep speaking on behalf of Johansson said: “The very idea of any person auditioning to be in a relationship is so demeaning.
“I refuse for anyone to spread the idea that I lack the integrity to choose my own relationships. Only a man, AKA Brendan Tighe, would come up with a crazy story like that.”
Tighe made the revelation on the Megyn Kelly Today show in the US, adding that when Cruise was in town, all of the actor’s security detail had to have their teeth whitened, a claim that has been made previously by ex-Scientologists.
“If you were part of anything to do with his service or entourage, you had to be seen by the dentist,” said Tighe, who quit the church six years ago.
He also went on to discuss the reportedly fractious and competitive relationship between Cruise and fellow church-member John Travolta.
“They didn’t like each other,” he said. “They could be in the same building, pass each other in the hall, and give each other the cold shoulder.”
In response to Tighe having given an interview about the church, it also released a statement.
“Brendan was a Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization security guard/watchman from 2002 to 2009,” it read.
“The access he boasts of having was largely limited to viewing security cameras from a guard booth. He was removed from that position for dereliction of duty.”
“Brendan Tighe is fraudulently distorting his experiences to support a bigoted anti-Scientology reality television series.
“Our experience is that ridiculous claims such as those Tighe now raises have been inevitably sourced to the same discredited individuals kicked out of the Church years ago.”
