Salma Hayek Spills a Secret: She's Working with Angelina Jolie Again Soon! (Exclusive)
Salma Hayek stars in Angelina Jolie's new movie 'Without Blood' — and the two are collaborating again on Hayek's directorial debut
Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie aren't done working together!
While Hayek, 58, spoke with PEOPLE at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival about her new movie that Jolie, 49, directed, Without Blood, the actress revealed that she and Jolie are collaborating on another upcoming project.
"I don't know if I'm supposed to say this," Hayek says, when asked if she and Jolie have discussed working together again. "She's producing my next film that I'm directing."
"I wasn't really supposed to tell you that, but why not?" she grins. "So I'm working on a film that I want to direct, and she's taking me by the hand."
While Hayek said she cannot reveal more details on the project, she tells PEOPLE that she wrote the movie and intends on directing it. She did not clarify whether she or Jolie may also star in the film. "The story just came to my head and it just keeps on unfolding, and it comes to me. I see the images, and I hear the sound design," she says. "It is not something I went looking for. It's just something that came to me and wouldn't leave."
The otherwise unnanounced and in-the-works project would mark Hayek's directorial debut.
The two close friends recently brought Jolie's Without Blood to Toronto, which is based on author Alessandro Baricco's 2008 novel of the same name. The film follows a woman (Hayek) who visits a man at a newsstand and begins to confront him about his role in a violent and deadly attack on her family members years prior, per an official festival synopsis.

Without Blood is Jolie's first project as a director since 2017's First They Killed My Father. Its premiere at TIFF came shortly after her Maria Callas drama, the Pablo Larrain-directed Maria, premiered to standing ovations at the Telluride Film Festival and Venice Film Festival. Aside from the new film, Jolie and Hayek previously costarred together in the 2021 Marvel film Eternals.
Hayek emphasized her close relationship with Jolie while speaking with PEOPLE on the red carpet on Sunday Sept. 8, calling the Oscar-winning actress "a family member."
“What do you mean friendship?” she quipped, when asked about the pair's longtime friendship, noting that she and Jolie “do things together as a family.”
"I always find it super inspiring. A friend was telling me, ‘It's the same life whether you laugh or cry,’ " she said of their relationship. "And it's nice to have a friend where you can laugh and cry... and feel always safe.”
