Rose McGowan turns herself in on felony drug-possession warrant
Rose McGowan was arrested Tuesday for felony possession of a controlled substance. The 44-year-old actress turned herself into the Loudoun County Police in Virginia stemming from a January incident. McGowan, one of Harvey Weinstein’s alleged victims, was released on $5,000 bond.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department issued a warrant earlier this year after personal belongings left behind on a United flight arriving at Washington Dulles International Airport allegedly tested positive for narcotics. Investigators believed the belongings were McGowan’s.
Last month, McGowan — who has been one of the loudest voices in the wake of Hollywood’s sexual harassment scandals — alluded the warrant was a conspiracy. “Are they trying to silence me? There is a warrant out for my arrest in Virginia. What a load of HORSES**T,” she tweeted. It’s unclear when exactly the Scream star was made aware of the warrant.
A settlement was reached between Weinstein and McGowan two decades ago for $100,000 stemming from a 1997 incident at the Sundance Film Festival. The actress has since claimed the disgraced producer raped her, while he has denied any accusations of non-consensual sex.
The actress also alleged to the New York Times that in September, just weeks before the newspaper’s bombshell report was published, someone close to the Oscar-winning producer offered her $1 million in hush money in exchange for signing a nondisclosure agreement. She says she declined.
Reports from The Daily Beast and TMZ have also claimed that Weinstein’s former attorney, Lisa Bloom, actively investigated McGowan and her sexual history in an alleged attempt to discredit the actress prior to the scandal.
McGowan has not commented on today’s arrest, but just posted a photo on Twitter of her standing strong with the #RoseArmy logo.

“It’s about the flower, because we have thorns and thorns carry justice,” she has said of the hashtag.
