Rocking Stone Pony show to benefit Asbury Park Recreation Department summer programs

The Stone Pony in Asbury Park will be rocking so the kids in the city can get playing this summer.

The bi-annual Rock 'n' Roll Recreation show, presented by Asbury Park Mayor John Moor to raise funds for city summer recreation programs, is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Pony.

Party rockers Shorty Long and the Jersey Horns, and Elvis impersonator Richie Santa, will perform at the “Shake, Rattle and Roll”-themed night. There will be a buffet dinner, one-hour open bar (6 to 7 p.m.), and an auction of Jersey Shore items of interest.

“It's the best mayor's ball in New Jersey," Moor said. “You don't have to wear a tuxedo. You don't have to get all dressed up. You can come however you want to the world-famous Stone Pony and have an outrageous evening.”

The event, which began as a rodeo-themed night in 2015, has helped fund the six-week summer recreation programs for city kids, which includes trips to Sky Zone, the Liberty Science Center, the American Dream Mall and city beaches.

“The whole night is enjoyable because of where the money is going,” Moor said.

Sylvia Sylvia-Cioffi, executive director of the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce, will be honored.

The evening is produced by Moor, Cassandra Dickerson and Leesha Floyd of the city, Caroline O'Toole of the Stone Pony, and Jason Dermer of Asbury Audio.

Tickets are $85 each and are available via stoneponyonline.com.
