Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Willie Nelson to release 152nd album 'The Border' in May
2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Willie Nelson's indefatigable country music career will continue past his 90th birthday.
Nelson's 152nd album, "The Border," will be released on May 31 from Sony's Legacy Recordings.
The album's lead single, a take on Rodney Crowell's 2019 track "The Border," is currently available.
Nelson's thoughtful take on the song, written as a tale of the life and times of a Texas border guard, was co-written by Rodney Crowell and Allen Shamblin for Crowell's 2019 album "Texas" (on which Nelson was featured).
The album features a who's who of iconic, Hall of Fame-level musicians and songwriters, including longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon (with whom Nelson pairs for "Once Upon a Yesterday," "What If I'm Out of My Mind," "Kiss Me When You're Through," "How Much Does It Cost" and "Hank's Guitar," which Cannon co-wrote not with Nelson but with Bobby Tomberlin), plus Larry Cordle and Erin Enderlin ("I Wrote This Song for You"), Crowell and Will Jennings ("Many a Long and Lonesome Highway"), Shawn Camp and Monty Holmes ("Made in Texas") plus Mike Reid ("Nobody Knows Me Like You").
Also notable are the album's players: Nelson is the lead vocalist and guitarist, accompanied by Mickey Raphael (harmonica), Bobby Terry (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, steel guitar), James Mitchell (electric guitar), Jim "Moose" Brown (Wurlitzer, B-3 organ, piano, synthesizer), Fred Eltringham (drums, percussion) and Barry Bales (upright bass); backing vocals are by Cannon and his daughter, Melonie.
"The Border" will be available digitally, on CD and black vinyl.
Barnes & Noble will offer an exclusive LP edition of The Border, pressed on orange vinyl. Willie's D2C store will offer an exclusive vinyl version that includes a 12" x 12" designed lyric book featuring listening notes by writer Mikal Gilmore and photos by Pamela Springsteen.

Willie Nelson's 2023 and 2024 touring
Nelson's still on the road, too.
April 27 will find him at 2024's Stagecoach Country Music Festival in Indio, California.
Nelson & Family will then commence a nationwide "Outlaw Music Festival" tour from June through September 2024 alongside Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, John Mellencamp, Billy Strings and more.
This follows a year in 2023 where not only was he inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but he was honored with a CBS-aired 90th birthday celebration from Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl featuring not just Nelson himself, but Beck, Gary Clark Jr., Sheryl Crow, Snoop Dogg, Norah Jones, Miranda Lambert, Dave Matthews, Nelson's sons Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson, Keith Richards, George Strait and Chris Stapleton.
