Robert Pattinson was 'absolutely terrified' to release 'The Batman'
Robert Pattinson dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday to promote his new film, The Batman. Pattinson follows Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck as the latest star to take up the Bruce Wayne mantle. But it turns out that playing an iconic crime fighter can be stressful.
“I was absolutely terrified,” Pattinson said “I haven't been this scared to release a movie in a long time.”
While Pattinson has been part of some huge film franchises, most notably Twilight and Harry Potter, playing such the Caped Crusader proved to be a whole different challenge.
“If you're a bad Batman, there's no bigger disaster than that, is there?” Jimmy Kimmel asked.
“That's what everyone keeps telling me,” Pattinson said. “They're like, if all fails, you'll still be part of something really special. I'm like, I don't want to be the worst one, that's what I get remembered for.”
Pattinson was so anxious about his performance as Bruce Wayne that it wasn’t until just three days ago that he actually screened the film.
“I kind of realized, I need to be in the perfect balance of serotonin to watch my own stuff.” Pattinson said. “I need to work out beforehand, I need to have an enormous amount of sugar and caffeine. [Then] whatever I'm watching, I'm like, ‘Yes!’”
Ultimately, Pattinson credited his girlfriend Suki Waterhouse with helping to ease his stress. Her reaction to his performance made everything better.
“She's not normally into watching superhero movies,” Pattinson said, “Just seeing that it was capturing her attention the entire time, then she held my hand and just touched it [to her face], I could feel a little tear. I was like, ‘No way.’”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
