The Late Rico Wade’s Mother Dies Six Months After Producer, Big Boi Reveals
Atlanta has suffered another tragic loss. This week, Big Boi revealed that Rico Wade’s mother passed away just six months after the legendary producer’s death.
The OutKast member shared an old photo of Mrs. Wade on Instagram on Wednesday (Oct. 16) with the caption “RIP Mama Wade *broken heart emoji* #RicoWadeForever.” In the photo, she smiled as she stood in the doorway of what appears to be the legendary home that hosted “The Dungeon” and birthed the Dungeon Family. That moniker describes the place where Rico worked with groups like OutKast and Organized Noise, plus Future, and assisted them in becoming the musical talents that they are.
Fans flooded the comments to express their sympathy for the loss, and one particular commenter had a great idea regarding telling her story. “This lady was so important to hip hop history,” they wrote. “This story needs to be told. The simple act of giving her son and his friends a safe space to be themselves and just be creative… changed the world.” A director chimed in and said they would love to work on it, so perhaps it will come to life.
“The matriarch of the DF tree,” another user wrote. “Who knows how the Atlanta music scene would be if she hadn’t opened her doors to yall. God bless the Wade family!” Currently, her cause of death is unknown but it is tough considering the proximity to Rico Wade passing away. He died at the age of 52 from heart failure back in April.
“I don’t have the words to express my deep and profound sense of loss,” Killer Mike, another Dungeon Family member, wrote back then. “I am Praying for your wife and Children. I am praying for the Wade family. I am praying for us all. This is a part of the journey. You told me ‘It ain’t been hard throughout the journey, it’s been a Journey’ . The journey ain’t gonna be the Same Journey without U. Like U say tho Umma ‘Stay Down on it”‘……we all are.”
Future recently honored Wade’s legacy by making the cover of his September project Mixtape Pluto the home of the legendary Dungeon. When promoting the project, he paid homage to Rico: “My cousin never died in my eyes. Rico Wade, you already know what u mean to me!”
Rest in peace to Beatrice Wade and VIBE sends condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones.
