All About Red Hot Chili Peppers Singer Anthony Kiedis' Son, Everly
Anthony Kiedis welcomed his only child, Everly, in 2007
Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis is a rockstar dad to his son, Everly Bear Kiedis.
The Grammy winner thinks being a father is one of the most “beautiful” groups to be a part of. He shares his only child with his ex-girlfriend model Heather Christie.
"I love the [daddy] club," Kiedis said during a 2012 interview with Fuse. "Good God, it's a beautiful club. Who knew? You can't know until you go. It's wild.”
Kiedis has been rocking out with his bandmates since 1982, and while some people may assume that becoming a father would slow things down, it has only given the “Californication” singer more energy.
“I think people that have fear that, ‘Oh if I have a kid I won’t be able to do this and I won’t be able to do that.’ It’s kind of the opposite. It really gives you energy. It makes people better,” he explained.
Here’s everything to know about Anthony Kiedis’ son, Everly Bear Kiedis.
He was born in 2007
Kiedis and Christie welcomed Everly Bear into the world on Oct. 2, 2007.
Speaking to Louder Sound in 2014, the vocalist opened up about how becoming a parent added to his life in a meaningful way.
“He was born right after we came off a tour, which was very cosmically correct. Being a father is the coolest trip I’ve ever taken,” he said. “I live out in the country. I wake up to my son each day, go surfing and think about music. That works for me today. I believe my son will keep me alive and well and vibrant.”
Kiedis prepared for Everly's birth with the help of his own mom
Kiedis read parenting books while his ex-girlfriend Christie was pregnant with Everly. However, he ultimately turned to his mom for some parenting advice.
“I started reading parenting books when my son was still in his mother’s womb. I got one page in and thought: 'I’m not going to do this. I already understand how to relate to people.' So I put the books down and called my mom,” he explained to Louder Sound in 2014.
Everly taught his dad patience
The “Can’t Stop” hitmaker said that parenting has taught him many new skills, including how to truly be patient.
“No matter how quick-tempered or short-fused I can be, with my son I’ve resolved to put all my efforts into being patient with him,” he said during an interview with Louder Sound. “When he’s having a meltdown, if I just kind of sit there for five minutes then everything changes.”
Everly and Kiedis have great communication
In 2004, Kiedis published his autobiography, Scar Tissue, which details his wilder years. However, it’s not something that he’s worried about his son reading. Everly and his dad are excellent communicators, so the rocker isn’t too concerned about his child reading about his past.
"I don’t think [Scar Tissue is] going to worry him at all. He and I are extremely communicative. I think it’ll always be that way,” he explained to Louder Sound in 2014. “And I’ve got nothing to hide from him or be ashamed about. Nothing at all.”
Everly has performed onstage with his dad
When he was 9 years old, Everly proved that he had the rocker genes by joining his dad onstage to close out a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert.
During a 2016 show in Turin, Italy, Kiedis welcomed Everly to the stage to sing the first few lines on the band’s song “Dreams of a Samurai.”
They enjoy basketball
The father and son love to attend basketball games together. On Feb. 9, 2024, Kiedis and Everly attended the Los Angeles Lakers vs. New Orleans Pelicans game at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
A decade earlier, on Dec. 7, 2014, the pair attended another NBA game between the Lakers and the Pelicans, among other games since then.
